What tires should I look at

I need some tires for the summer. I have a winter set so I don't need all-seasons. Anyway I was wondering what tires I should look at. 225 45 18 is what size I'm looking at getting.
Looking for something that
-Is around 150
-Good Traction wet and dry
-Won't die at 8,000 miles like the stockers

^I felt the opposite. I hated the 452s, esp for comfort. If you want a set of 235/40's I'll sell mine to you cheap.

I have the falken 912's. 40,000 mile treadwear warantee. Not the best dry traction, but they are amazing in the rain.

ever thought about getting something witha higher tread wear rating? i know the stock potenza's are 140ish, hense their quick wear.

I have been looking at the 452 falkens, and the g-force sport, but I see good and bad ratings, that are completely contradicting each other

What size are yours Circle? And what size wheels?

I had 235/40 mounted on 18x8+48 and they were literally undriveable. Ride harshness was rediculous, and the normal "twitchiness" of the car over rough roads was made so much worse it was literally scary to get on the power.

I have 225/45/18 on my stock rims. I feel that they are very stable tires, they feel more solid than the stock tires at freeway speeds and I haven't felt any twitchiness at all. The 452's have a cushier ride than the stock Pontezas in my opinion.

Perhaps it was your rim and tire combo that caused the problems you mentioned. You did also go down a size, 45 down to 40, that may have given you a rougher ride.

Has anyone tried the new(ish) Potenze 760's? Apparently they're OEM on the 09 WRX and do quite well, and have a huge price advantage over the 050's.

I've used Falken 451's and Hankook RS2's on my IMpreza. The 452's are the same rubber as the 451's, with a better, quieter pattern.

451 - take around 1000+ miles to break in. Dry grip is excellent. Wet grip is outstanding, world class, as good as it gets. Sidewalls are stiff, so turn-in is sharp. Breakaway is outstanding, very progressive. No tramlining. Loud-ish, but not bad. They run wide. I drove 16miles of canyon every day, VERY spirited, and got ~25-30K. Cheap overall, a downright steal when you consider they can go up against, or beat, tires costing twice as much. I don't know what magic material they use for these: wet grip, dry grip, awesome heroic breakaway, and wear like iron. For cheap. Yeah.

RS2 -Dry grip excellent > outstanding. I'd say maybe 10-20% more than the 451's. Wet grip only good, which is to say as good as all seasons I've tried, and not at all a problem; you just can't get silly like you can with the 451's. Sidewalls are soft-ish, so turn in is more vague, and you can feel flex in them. Breakaway is less progressive than the 451, but still very good. Very minor tramlining. Hmm, can't remember noise on these. Narrower than 451's. A bit more expensive than 451's. Wear like ASS. 15k is good.

I had 451's, tried RS2's, and went happily back to 451's. The RS2's are only better if you need ultimate grip. THey do grip more, but don't feel good doing it, they're soft and dull feeling. Despite the extra grip, something interesting happened: I discovered I prefer a bit less grip. My Impreza was very well set up, supension wise, and I had WAYYY more fun utilizing the sharp turn in and awesome breakaway to slide sideways onto freeway onramps, rotate the rear end through the canyons with wheel input, and so on. The limit in the dry was enough higher with the RS2 that I was not comfortable 'having fun', as the speed needed was so high, and inputs needed were so aggressive, that it became, um, unfun, ie stupid and dangerous.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Hope it's useful!

I think you must be right that it's a combination of the wheel and tire. I have a Rota wheel which is quite light and probably very compliant compared to the stock wheels. Thing is, people have had the same damn tire on the same damn wheel and said it's "fine". They're either brain dead or there's some serious anomoly with my car in particular.

I had the geforce sport on my 00 civic si...dry grip was great. Wet grip was ok. Road noise was good. Thats about all I remember, cause the car was taken from me...:(.

Falken 452s
Yokohama S-Drives
Kumho SPT

+1 for the S-Drives. They not only perform very well in both wet & dry conditions, but they are one of, if not the quietest performance tires I have ever driven on the highway.

Mind you, I am still on OEM rubber on my '09 MS3, but I ran S-Drives on my MINI Cooper S and loved them. If you need serious track tires, you may want something with a slightly stiffer sidewall, but for everyday spirited driving, the S-Drives are excellent & affordable.

Oh, and after going thru multiple sets of Parada Spec-II, Kumho Ecsta MX, Falken Azenis, etc., in about 10-14k miles each, my S-Drives were still going strong at 24k when I traded the MINI for the MS3.
