What the....

Last night I was driving around and out of nowhere, the stereo turned off and the faceplate opened as if to eject the cd. It did not, the lights were out. So I removed the faceplate and reinstalled it. It did the same thing...no lights on the HU. I turned off the car, it flipped around in safe mode. I turned on the car and could not get it to turn around (even after pressing in upper left corner). I turned the car off again, it flipped half way open. So all of this while on a first date with a chick. Nothing like explaining why my brand new car with 500 miles is clunking like crazy and I can't even cover up the noise with the stereo becausethe HU is busted. Later, I tried the reset button and that seemed to fix the problem but how much of a pain in the ass is it to reset everything? Let's hope it doesn't happen again.
I have to say that the car handles well, and the turbo is fun but these issues plus the rattle I've developed somewhere on the passenger side has really made me question the fit and finish of the car. Exclusivity is a b****.

Yes; that sucks for sure. Hopefully, the Stereo problem you had is past history! I know what you mean, though; a brand new 'very exclusive' car, you sure as hell want it perfect right away in every way! Unfortunately, that is seldom the case with any car, no matter how exclusive the car is.

Keep grinning, and you can bet Mazda will make everything 'right', if there is a problem. :D

Cheers! (drinks)

greg youre always so happy :D

Well Dex, (if I may call you Dex) - Thank you! I try to be happy. Sure; sometimes its difficult to keep the 'Grin' alive. At 48, and the owner of a MAZDASPEED, and a pretty good life overall, I really have little to complain about.

A good friend of mine gave me the nickname: Grinnin' Boy. So; when I first starting brewing beer, like many, I wanted some cool custom labels for my bottles. So; I decided to call my brewery (very small at the time, all done in the kitchen) "The Grinnin' Boy Brewing Company" Ha!! My stepson helped me design the labels. Neat gifts for your friends, but when you enter a beer in competition, no labels can be on the bottles, so I still have lots of them. That all started in 1996. Now, I have my brewery in the garage, and yes, both Mazdas fit perfect. When I brew, I back the cars out, and it works out great!

I don't know if you enjoy a good beer or not, but I will say; in the Chicago area "Goose Island Brewery" is fantastic! I had the pleasure of co-hosting a local radio show on WMC790 AM called: "Brewline America", and I ran the website, and arranged most of the guest interviews. Goose Island Brewery sent us beers, and we typically did tastings on the show, and discussed the beers. It was also a call-in show, so we had a lot of fun.

Let me just say,,,,"Life is too short" You have got to be as happy as possible, as much as you can.

My MAZDASPEED is wonderful, and yes, there are a couple of things that I am not happy about. I still need to get that Mazda logo emblem on the steering wheel replaced. It's scratched. There's a little scratch on the lens over the gauges, but it can only be seen if the light hits it just right. I have about forgotten that.

And really; what's the point of having the dealer address it? They would have to remove part of the dash, and I really don't them messing with it. In the 3 years I owned my Nissan SE Limited, it was never in the shop, ever.

And most people would forget about the emblem on the steering wheel being scratched, but I notice everything, and yeah, I'm anal about a few things! But $20,500 is $20,500 - you deserve to have it right!

Cheers!!

yeha man, i know how annoying the steering wheel emblem scratch is. i had it messed up on the 02 ES i had after it came back from the shop after an accident. how in the world does it get scratched? i went to the dealer and told them when i got it back from the shop that it was scratched and if i could get a new one, and like you said, its part of the whole airbag assembly cover thing. thats pretty gay, im sure the emblem is just glued there. why do they have to make things more complicated. :( :(

your not the only one with stereo problems. The guy here with the speed still can't use his right. When it flips over, it gets stuck, and opens up again, then tries to close again....and repeat. And every time this happes....reset. Apparantly, I don't know why, but he has to reset it every time the car is turned off/on. This was since Jan 3rd when get got the car, and no replacement yet.

Mazda REALLY needs to get it's ass in gear and start adressing some of these problems rather than ignoring them which is all they seem to do now.

Indeed!! You know, the Kenwood 919 deck in the MSP retails for over $500+, I think. At Best Buy, I know it's $419.99. So; I would have to think it is a quality unit.

These problems (and any others) need to get resolved, for sure!

Cheers!

Dex: That's exactly what I said: "How does the emblem on the steering wheel get scratched?!" Carelessness, I guess. I noticed it when I first test drove the car, and I told my salesman, that they would have to replace it. So,,,when they are working the numbers, I decided to call the parts dept., and ask them about the emblem. Sure as hell! They told me it was part of the airbag assembly, and there was no part # for just the emblem. :wtf:

Anyway; whatever it takes. They will make it right. So; you didn't get yours replaced? Obviously, if you had to pay for it yourself, it would be way too much.

I told my insurance company that they should pay to replace it because it was damaged at some point while it was in the shop. and of course they said "We will absolutely NOT pay for it. Prove that it wasn't there before"

WTF. up thiers

Hey Dex, think like a criminal, run down to the dealer with a digital camera, set the date back to a day or two after you bought the car and definately before it went into the shop, photograph the wheel and submit picture as proof. Hard to dispute a dated picture.
