I just visited the mazda usa site and was looking through the features for our cars and one of the things listed is "slam lock" and its standard equipment on all the cars...

WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?

i can only say...
"what the hell is this feature?"
as well...
slam lock? is this some PR shizness??? like a regular lock but they wanted to make it sound cool?

I THINK it means the door locks remain locked as you close the door, rather than having to hold up on the handle as in some cars. Could be wrong though :)

That sounds right.... my neighbour has a van.. not sure on the brand... and if you dont hold the handle up after you lock the door to close it, it unlocks...I also have seen some old buicks that you have to use the key from the outside to lock the doors... this way you cant lock your keys in your car.

maybe so...but I have yet to see a car that the door locks worked like that in a VERY LONG TIME....in fact I have never seen a car with PULL UP LEVER type handles which you had to do anything but just shut the door....its been a while since doors had push button type latches on them, which were the last type i can remember having to HOLD THE BUTTON down while closing to get the lock to stay locked....

but your definition makes sence.....who knows, I just would never ever considered that a "FEATURE" rating a mention as standard on the car.

My VW Bug you had to lock it from the outside with the key too...but it was a 1965 model!! lol

hey Sir Nuke this is a wild guess pulled out of my ass, but maybe it's refering to the feature that when you lock the drivers side door with your key all the other doors lock as well....I dunno...just guessing:D

Has anybody else noticed after you unlock the car and don't touch it for a while (30-60 sec) it will relock itself. Or does my car have a feature that none of you have?

Thanks

We all have it.

I think it is part of the remote keyless entry thingie, if u press the unlock button accidentally or something, the car will lock itself if no doors has been opened.

All Mazdas that I have ever had with keyless entry have this feature. It's to re-lock the car if you accidentaly press the unlock button but don't open the door.

I wasn't aware that it re-locked them if you used the key.

Man, you sure can think of great ways for me to waste my time Nuke!

A slam lock is a style of lock activated by closure and requiring a key to open. I'm in my office and not gonna go outside right now to test it, but I'm thinking this is on our hatches.

I got news for you TEX....there is NO KEY HOLE on our hatches. so guess again! lol

On my old 93 civic, and my wife's 98 civic, you had to either hold the door lever open to "slam" the lock down, or lock the driver's door from the outside with the key.

The main reason we bought the P5 was for the slam locks :p

Nuke..They sure do have keyholes on the hatch. Just to the right of center above the license plate area.
