What is this part and why is it here? It's bolted to the driver's side motor mount. It doesn't seem to serve any purpose.

FWIW, I'm also wondering why there is a iron/steel block about the size of a business card mounted to the underside of the center lower engine brace!

I figured it out. It's the elusive Flux Capacitor. I knew I had one somewhere.

Seriously, it must support the airbox or something. The damn airbox has been out so long I forgot it was ever there.
 
Mr. Hiroshama's grandson needed a job at the time, so he had this part specially made for him to install on the production line. It's good to know people.

you would be correct.

However I dont think they do a damn thing, take it off and toss it in the garbage, there are more than a few on the car, you can make it a fun game to find them and rip them off for weight reduction
