What the F is going on!

Im with MrMp3......rarity is the one thing that keeps me glued to my MP3 even though I havent done much to it,only have long term goals for it, and by the time I get off my ass, there will be something much better, something cheaper, so on and so forth, but it wont be as rare as what I have. The one mod that alot of people do to there car, no matter what they own, is pull the badges off. I for one will wear that badge just to say hey to everyone who knows cars, mines rare and yours isnt. And the only people who can say theres is just as rare own something thats in a price range thats unheard of to most of us, or are just like us and own mazdaspeeds.

And here's a question for everyone, Who remembers how they felt the first time they drove there MP3 of the lot?

Now Mazda may not be the best company or build the most reliable cars, but Im not jumping ship because if there one thing Ive learned about cars in general,
They all break!!!
and they can all be better.

But hey thats just me:D

Hey guys I had a 1997 A4 2.8 5spd quattro, I loved it, but I had over 135K miles on it, and there where a lot of little electricly issues. I had to pay $300 to get my headlight switch replaced!!!!! I had the timing belt replaced at 90K miles and it cost $700!!! I will not miss maintence on that car. I do miss AWD in the snow and the acceleration compared to my Pro5, but I donet have to worry about major maintence for till 75Kmiles.

I love my MP3, don't get me wrong. But it is an econobox. Plain and simple. It lacks quality parts, it's design is normal and blends in with every other econobox sedan. Yes, the MP3 is a good looking car, but it's nothing like an IS 300 or an A4. There is ZERO comparison between the two. If nothing had happened to my car, I'd stil probably want to trade it in. I am just tired of everyday cheap imports. I'm graduating to 2 year old luxury cars now. I was seriously thinking of getting a WRX, but why? I will pay about $21,000 for one off the lot. Within 2 years, the value will have dropped by more than $5000. With the same money, I can buy a 2 year old A4, TT, IS300, etc. with less than 50,000 miles. And please don't even try to compare the interior and styling between the cheap econoboxes and WELL MADE GERMAN CARS. There is just no comparison between the two. I'd rather have a car that is of higher quality and will hold it's value better.

As for a Civic SI, they are now worthless also. Unless it's brand new. You can buy a 2000 SI for less than $12,000. They are everywhere.

I guess I'm just graduating into better cars.

i think another reason our cars are not worth much anymore is because the msp came out no one is going buy a 2 year old version of the msp for 17000 or 1800 that they were going for a year ago. long term our cars will hold a little more value than a regular protege for collector value but that is about it. i dont plan on trading in my car or getting rid of it. i like it and it is still a badass car and if you think are cars are cheap made get in a mustang or camaro ( i know i used to have them both)

I dunno. The fact that you can get a 1999 BMW M3 for about $28k with 29k miles when they went for $55k 3 or 4 years ago doesn't say much about resale values of higher end cars either. Yeah, you can sell them for more used, but only because you paid a s*** load for it in the beginning. A car, whether you like it or not, is a horrible investment.

I still firmly believe I will keep my MP3 until it dies. I love the car too much, and I have big plans for it. Someday I'd like to get into amateur racing (road racing and such), and I think it would be fun to have a project car like the MP3 :D.

Very true, every car, especialy in its first year looses it value extreamly rapidly.

That's why I'm starting to think it's just better to lease. I get tired of cars very quickly. I'm usually tired of a car by the time it's about 2 years old.

I have leased a few cars. It is cool becuase you can get a new one every few years and have lower payments but you are restricted by what you can do to the car and your payment is basicly paying for the worst depresiation period of the car. The lease payment is only what it will loose in value.

The good thing about leasing is that buy the time you pay off a car these day in a buy the car 1. isn't worth dick and 2. It is having major reliability issues and you need a new one anyways.

Yep, America is full of disposable everything, cars, cellphones, wives. Maybe not the last one, or at least we all wish. :D

I'm with Dragonbabe. 25,000 miles and not one problem (except the clunk...which isn't as bad as Newf's and I can easly live with it until we get a real fix). I love it as much as the day I bought it.

Kids, don't put your money into a depreciating asset if your going to be surprised when it depreciates. Take the bus.

All cars have problems and this was the first car that had a bust-ass aftermarket suspension that came standard. Mistakes were made and Mazda (and every other car company) is learning from them. We were guinea pigs and we'll stick together to get Mazda to solve our issues or we'll combine the brainpower to solve them ourselves (like they do over on s2ki.com where Honda has ignored it's s2000 mistakes, or z06vette.com where Chevy has done the same).

If you don't love your car, I don't want you here. Sell it (please!)and eventually they'll trickle into the hands of people who will really love them (like the RX-7s). Then we'll really make some progress.

Wow, you are really smart. This wasn't the first car with a "bust ass aftermarket suspension". Have you never heard of the Porsche? How about the Cobra R? Do I need to keep going. I am far from a "kid" also. I know that cars are the worst investments there are, just like I know they depreciate the most in the first year. Do you really think you are laying some knowlege on me here? Liek I said, I like my MP3, but I'm just tired of cheap imports. They are all the same.

Damn, this thread has turned into a mutated killer forum of rage
:D

I am still kicking myself in the ass for not buying a 93 rx-7 though

Damn, Engine is knocking, electrical system is on fire, clunks all over the place, Puffs out blue smoke, Struts shot will trade for 1987 Escort Wagon
Damn! What happened to your car?

Its an econobox junker :)

That was my old sarcastic signature When I hated my car, But after I drove a geo metro for 3 weeks I love my car now :)

Driving a Metro will make you love a Pinto. Try driving an IS300 or an A4 or a TT, then get back into the MP3 and tell me how you feel about it.

I Know I drove an IS 300 before and it is my dream car. but it was $35000 bucks, how much are 2 year old ones going for these days. Plus that was an automatic, which I would want a stick.

IS300 sucks ass, I hate that car. Ugly back end too. Weights to much for that engine.

Nah, leasing you're always making payments.

adn then you can't really mod heavily.
