Hi Joshua-

My name is Lisa and I am an Online Producer over here at EA SPORTS. It looks like you own the domain www.madden06.com and Im pretty sure that you had good intentions to use this url but I am sorry to say that we are going to have ask for this back from you. I wanted to approach you directly without having to go through our legal team to see if you would cooperate and we could get the transfer done seamlessly. As you probably know when you get legal teams involved the legal fees could add up and I dont think you want to go that route. So here is what we have to offer for your cooperation; the moneyback that you paid to register the domain and a few free games of your choice. Please respond within 48 hours to confirm that you have received this message. I cant tell you how grateful we would be to be able to get this done in the next week or so. We appreciate your efforts and understanding.

Sincerely,

Lisa

they really can't do s***, and I doubt that is a legitmate e-mail. Just because they have a game named "Madden" or should I say "John Madden" doesn't mean that they get your site. s*** all you have to say is that it is refering to maddening rage or some s*** like that.

They are just trying to scare you with the legal fees and all that bulls***, don't worry about it. If they want your url, which you own the rights to they are going to have to buy it from you, plain and simple.

Call that b**** back, and tell her...you want the site you buy it. Don't even try threatening me with lawyers. Than they will either back down, or buy it...well they might come at you even harder...but they can't do s***.

exactly they are just trying to pressure you into giving it up without having to pay for it

call her and tell her they can buy it for a resonable price if they really need it for an upcoming game

im thinking $10,000 would be good enough:)

dude, thats a company that has a market cap of over $20 billion. if i were you, i'll go out and renew my domain name.
then call the women back and if they pressure you, you tell them that YOU are taking the legal route.

this is awesome!!

edit:this is true only if the email is legitimate and the person who contacted you is from electronic arts.

Tell them you have no interest in selling the site. Also that your not worried about legal fees because they can take you to court all they want and you'll just sit there and smile while the judge lectures them about wasting his time.

HOwever, tell them, you will GIVE them the right to the site, if they hire you as a part time subcontractor acting as a beta tester and consultant on new games for $80K a year for no less then 2 years. (thumb)

I like the beta tester idea.. But seriously, try to get the most money out of them without having to go to court. I'm willing to bet a large sum of money you can get a few grand out of them.

You have nothing on the site, and are obviously cyber-squating. You do nothing but register a name, and wait for some legitamite business that wants it to pay you (big)money. You are a jerk because you drive up prices to the end consumer by raising the costs of their business operations.

There is nothing wrong in what he is tring to do. In the early 90's this was a big deal. Look whats happed with Nissan.

The end prices are high because of the damn demand, not becuase people are buying domains and sitting on them, s*** i have domain that are registerd to me. If every Tom, Dick and Harry gets sucked into the video game market, wouldnt you want to jack the games up to $50 so that you can go play golf on saturdays in a exotic resort.

**** them. a few games of your choice lol. when the internet first got big, cocacola and pepsi paid MILLIONS for the rights to their sites. there is no law that says you cant have a domain under whatever name you want.

DONT CAVE IN!!!

Cybersquatting is a federal offense.. You need to put a forum up or something to show that you had no ill intentions when setting up the site. Cybersquatting is going to be very hard for them to prove. Did you have the domain name before they had the trademark for Madden06, if so, you automatically win. Also, cybersquatting is usually for business names, not product names. If you put the forum up, that will show that you had no bad intentions when buying the domain.

Technically, you are guilty of cybersquatting if you buy domain names that are trademarked by someone else with the intention of demanding a lot of money for them.

Hmmm... this is interesting. I agree with Kat & MT- don't be the cybersquatting guy. Put the site up right and make it legit. I wouldn't let them bully you with legal threats either. Call a lawyer to see if what case you have if you plan to defend your site. You could also try calling the numbers this woman left in her email to make sure it's legit if you haven't done that already.

This is bulls***.
I'd tell them to **** off and prove you are Cybersquatting. Tell them good luck.
I'd start working on a web site though. Make it look like you had intentions of putting one up. Still don't mean crap.

tell them that you were planning to put up a forum and have people advertise on it and such. The money you ask for will be lost proffit. otherwise, you shouldn't ask for money.
