What options are available?

I recently bought a 2003 MP5 and have some serious mod plans to introduce. I am not familiar with Mazda performance products and am searching for a supercharger within the walls of my wallet. I looked at the FM charger, but it's a little too steap for me. Does anyone know of any good deals on superchargers? I am also loooking to upgrade the suspension to racing springs, and replace my intake and exhaust. I guess the supercharger would take care of my intake, but incase I can't find something I can afford, I would just upgrade my cold air for the time being. Any info would be of great worth.

don't know of a single SUPERCHARGER kit for our cars yet....however....there are quite a few TURBOcharger setups.

Whats your ride? Matrix? I saw a turbo Matrix in some turbo mag. It was fast as heck. They turbocharged the 180 version with impressive results. Very high compression motor, but it did well.

Um, if you think the FM Protege TURBO kit is to pricey, I believe Terry (aka Spoolin') has a lower boost, non-intercooled kit that is cheaper in cost.

However, if I were you, I would sit back and wait a few more months to see how both Sppolin and FM take care of dealing with the tricky little ECU that the Protege has...

It might end up in spending a little more in the long run, but the car will use whatever kit you go with to its best ability. Which, after all, is the most important thing about getting a turbo.

And as a FM customer, I must say that I like it...I like it alot.

Nope, I have it on good authority that the device is a temporary fix until they can get a better way to handle the fuel set up.

The kit is ready for eight psi. But, for the MP3, eight psi isn't very happy. My car isn't happy at some points running five to five and a half.

They are looking for a better way to deal with it all...They are working on it as we speak.

The device is a reasonable solution for 6 psi. You'll notice we're not recommending more than that. We are working on better fuel and timing control for more boost, but the current Stage 1 setup will probably remain.

I've seen a centrifugal SC on a Protege. Not my favourite solution, but it's a supercharger.

The centrifugal blower that Keith is talking about is on the Wing's West Protege as a test car for Area 51. Supposedly Area 51 will make one for your Protege as well, you just have to leave your car with them for a few months and pay a little over $4,000.

I haven't heard any updates as to whether they will make a mass produced kit or not.

I agree too. I'm just letting the guy know what his options are.

I've already made my choice.. He might just want to go a different way.

On a side note...I once saw the Area 51 Lexus SC bodied drag car at an 1/8 mile track...ran like sh*t...stuttering....popping...similar to the sound of an nuclear powered pop corn maker...I was disappointed...guess they were still working the bugs out...well seeing a twin turbo SB 69 camaro...get sucked down the track like a black hole was on the other end...made my day!

Ran 87 octane gas in it and blew number three piston, ring and caused 70% compression loss in that cylinder. It was JDM Matrix engine(2GZZ), so part to fix were expensive and rare. To bad they gave it back to Toyota because they will no longer be doing any further development with the Matrix. They posted final project notes in this month's issue.

That's great and all (except that it was done to a Matrix), but why haven't they done anything with the supposed Project MP3???

I am curious about this myself. I recall a while back a post on this very forum that there have already been press MP3's sold on the open market. I wonder if that was not one of them sold. The last time it was mentioned in SCC magazine was in there(Mazda sponsored) trek to Texas issue. That was early this year May issue I believe. I think they dropped it after that because of the poor aftermarket support from major companies. I wish they would have done it because we could have probally got some good R&D out of it if anything. That magazine seems to puss out if they can't just bolt something on and test, which really lacks balls if you ask me. People just give them cars and parts so they can get advertisements for free. I wish somebody would give me a car, some money and parts I would run the hell out of it and put in magazine for all to see. Sorry I am ranting I'll stop now.:mad:
