what octane do you use?

i was reading over my owner's manual & it says the MS3 takes between 91-93.
has anyone, or does anyone run with 93 oct?(dunno)

would it make a difference?(attn)

I run 93. I also run 92. I notice a .0003hp difference in 3rd gear @ redline. It's sweet.

that much eh? best i can find around here is 92... i may have to drive to a different state to get me some uber 93 (cool)

In reality, as has been somewhat sarcastically stated, the difference between 91 and 93 is mostly negligible unless you're running lots of modifications.

Any Mobil has 93 octane and Sunoco's had 93 and 94.

When I had my MP3 I only used Mobil gas and only 93. I think I only put in 92 uhhh 5 times since I bought it in 2005 and sold it a couple months ago.

For the extra 2-3 cents a gallon, it's worth running the 93. Besides, 91 isn't too common around this area.

That is correct, but higher octane has the ability to resist pre-detonation, which is critical in a turbocharged application or high compression application where cylinder temperatures are hotter than normal.

I do something that I may get flamed for...

I fill half way with 93 and then fill the rest of the way with 89 at work assuming it'll average out to 91. I do automotive crash testing for a living, so we drain gas out of cars like crazy. Hence, I get free 89 octane.

So, is this a dumb idea?

The brochures for the speed3/speed6 state *with usage of 93 Octane. I know it's a sales brochure so take it for what it's worth. I had my ECU reflashed in my VW Golf. There were seperate maps for 91 Octane and 93 Octane. The power difference shown on their inhouse dyno was about 5 peak HP and 8 peak torque. The difference was the amount of timing pull at redline. I'd imagine it's something that's closely monitored by the ECU. If the car has 93 octane, it may pull less timing at peak RPM.

well with my cold start issue im still having, if i put 94 in the car it has a hard time starting vs 91?

sorry dude but that does kinda sound dumb. i dont think it would "balance" its self out.

but then again if you haven't had any problems yet(dunno)

i also hear that the higher the octane the better it is for the car(cool)

wheather i get better hp #'s or not if its better for the car then i'll use it.

I'm always on the fly. If I spend the time to think about it, common sense prevails and I end up keeping it to myself. That's not how I like to roll. I'm all about the stupid.

Here in Colorado the highest Octane you can get is 91. But we're also at 5,280ft. altitude. I'm running my car (MS3) this Sunday at Bandimere Raceway dragstrip to see what it will run at altitude.
