What motorcycle to buy?

xelderx: those things are mean. The only dual sport I ever rode was a BMW. Don't know what model it was but it was fun. I live where theres a lot of dirt roads so it was perfect up there. I think they ride a Duke in the Slednecks 4 video in the city and they do some crazy s***. Slednecks videos are insane if you ever get a chance to watch them. backflips, jumping over ski lodges, huge drop ins, all on snowmobiles.

I've seen previews for most of the sledneck videos. I used to work for several dealers. Don't be too quick to call the Duke a "dual sport"(Duke owners get touchy about stuff like that...lol). It runs the same size tires as 600cc streetbikes, 160 in the back and 120 in the front. The tires on mine are actually Avon Gripsters at the moment. Thats Avon's supersport rain race tire. I got a good deal on them so I can save my Michelin Pilot race tires for the track. People always ask what the Duke's are all about. I just say it's the most fun you'll ever have getting arrested.

Honestly, just get a used R6 or CBR. The motors are near indestructable. SV650's are loads of fun...unless all you want to do is go straight. I'm not satisfied with their non-adjustable front forks though. Lots of aftermarket for any of those bikes.

before I think too much about this... find a $ amount you want to spend and then start searching places like traderonline.com looking for the newest used CBR600 you can get. Do a title search and call your insurance company before buying.

Here's the only pic I have right now. This bike was police special that was actually used as a patrol bike. Lots of motor work done. Not chopper style but a real nice custom.

How much? This is my dream bike, but I am too short to ride it!

Holy crap you guys are killing me!!!! :D

Yeah, maybe a 1992 CBR600. :D Nice Duke btw. 600's now have 180/ or 190/ rears. ;)

no don't getta ducati, get a suzuki hayabusa they are faster
especially the one's w/ turbo!

Yeah, and that way you can star in Biker Boyz II. The sequel to the worst motorcycle movie ever. Then get that b**** dropped and cromed too! And you can join the army of squids and mashers forming to take over the world. :wtf: Don't buy a Ferrari when you can get the new Pontiac GTO with a Turbo in it. Its not all about how fast one can go in a straight line my friend. ;)

Now this is the voice of reason.

Mazdaspeedgirl, that may be a good deal for you. You can always take some foam out of the seat. Check into it. ;)

The SV650 is a great bike to cruise around town on. I think you can get one cheaper that that. Shop around. ;)

I'm going to go all over the place on saturday and look at new and used bikes. Also i think I'll check into the rules about retitling a salvaged bike.

I like this one best..
"OMG don't buy any Honda CBR they are so slow... when a Suzuki 600 can beat a CBR900R that says a lot right there"
Dont know exactly what it says but..
I currently ride a 900RR...(and I seem to keep up quite well with my riding buddies RC-51's, R-1's, ZX-9's etc..600's are equally quick off the line and mid range, fun size bikes, owened quite a few, but...different story when you get into high speeds, cant beat cc's)
But..I wont get into a pissing war about who's bike is faster or who's cock is bigger..the bike (any bike) is only as quick as it's rider...sure you may blow by me in some straights, but dont expect me to stop and help you out of the ditch once we hit the twisties!

P.S. Not directed at anyone...just my 2 cents..Anyone else who rides is okay in my books!

More words of wisdom. (drinks) For me the thrill of a motorcycle means tearing up some twisties with friends on a Sunday morning. Or going to the track (I mean ROADCOURSE) and really measuring the RIDER! Pissing matches about whose bike or car is faster is pointless on the internet. ;)

Going to go look at a 2000 Honda RC51 on saturday. Only 1700 miles asking $6,900
