What mileage are you getting?

Well my worst has been 26 MPG when I found where the governer shuts down the car, between 130+ 132 MPH.

My average is 29 - 30 and best so far has been 32MPG.

Just did 30.2mpg from San Diego to Phoenix this weekend on 87 octane with the AC going the whole way. Averaged around 28 while toolin' around Phoenix.

man you guys arent going to believe me but lately ive been getting HORRIBLE milage, like 19.8-21.2 im SOOO HAPPY if i break 22. on long highway trips i wont get over 23. It really sucks. I dont drive verry hard and seriously try very hard to get the most out of a tank every now and then jsut to see if its me or the car. I got an auto, no roof rack, and currently just an ebay intake, NGK sparkplugs + sparcko wires. its really bad. ill try resetting th ecu, which i believe is just desconnecting the negative battery terminal for a few minutes?

also, 89 octane gas

okay,
for you ppl that are so concerned about gas economy etc. etc. etc.

lemme ask you guys a question.
How much does it cost you to feel your tank, and how many miles do you get per tank?

okay, here's my point. If i paid you that amount of money would you walk, that amount of miles?

not likely, so why complain/worry about it, either way your still gonna pay whatever price they set gas to. Unless you have access to the city bus, and i seriously doubt u'd resort to that.

just my .02 cents

2003.5 Sport-Shift Auto.
Worst. 23.4 mpg
Best 33.7 mpg
Avg. 28.7 mpg.
I get paid for mileage when I drive my car for work so I keep track quite religiously. I drive 70-100 miles a day. I can get way better mileage if I run the sport shift +/- myself rather than let the gearbox do the work. But then I can get the worst if I run 2nd down some of my favorite roads. :) Have MazdaSpeed Exhaust and drop-in K&N Filter. As for comparison. My '99 Si got 21-23mpg so this is way better for me. My Geo Storm b4 that got ~28mpg on a good day. My 2002 S10 CrewCab only gets 14-17mpg... As mentioned above it's all in how you feel about driving it. I still smile every time I get out of the PR5. I never felt that way about the Si..

Yes, most of us will still choke up the change no matter what gas costs. It's not really about the money, it's just about making sure my car is as efficient as possible. Why? Because I don't want to choke up the atmosphere any more than necessary, and I don't want to give any more money than necessary to the oil companies and the government.

Every mod I've performed on my car so far has had the pleasant side effect of improving efficiency and fuel economy. This will probably be true for any mods I do in the future as well, with the possible exception of a short shifter.

This is all because I drive my P5 50 or 60 miles roundtrip to work. Now if I don't care about efficiency and want to just tear around, I'll take out my other Mazda. :)

Get about 24-30 mpg

depends on my driving style and if its warm outside. But usually get like 25-27 on average.

Ok, just got done with a loang trip and averaged 34mpg. That was with the last half of the tank city. Right now I'm sitting at a little over 1/4th of a tank, and 360ish miles. :D Those ground wire really seem to help. :D

Well the trip had 392.3 when I pulled into the gas station. I filled her with 87 octane @ 14.563 gallons. That'd be an average of 26.9 MPG. Not bad... (drive)

i think its just the auto tranny, mine doesnt get high numbers like the rest of these guys either

Don't feel bad , I have automatic with same bad gas mileage

Don't feel bad , I have automatic with same bad gas mileage.

I tried differenct spark plugs even stock ones : NGK , NGK irdium, NGK platium, SPLITFIRE and now BOSH with the same crappy results.

I tried removal of resonator in front of stock filter ( pulls warm-air from engine compartment) and got even worse gas mileage. Attached a flexible pipe to under bumber and got great highway.

I made an excel chart so when I fill in my mileage in km and my fill-up in Litres it calculates everything , so I can compare with anybody.

My "Low Fuel" Indicator turns on at about 330 miles, which is about 1/8 tank left. I don't push much further than 360 miles on a tankful. According to the owner's manual, the '03 Protege5 has a 13.8 gallon tank so that'd be about 26.1 miles/gallon. That's mostly city driving though, which I classify as anything under 50mph.

I have kept detailed records of my fuel econ, over a year and I have averaged 28.3 which is smack right in the middle of the epa 25-31. I found that taking off the roof rack and bike rack improved mpg and noise.

I also feel that having the INTAKE, improved my mpg but not because of the intake itself, but because of my driving habits. As you press down on the throttle it gets really loud and throaty sounding. When you get to this point you are wasting gas, so as a guideline I avoid wide open throttle and keep the car in each gear relatively longer. The throaty sound serves as a reminder of when to let up. But for those times when I want to peel, the intake adds some nice oomph to the high end.
