What is this?

It looks hideous. Kill it with fire. Like a rich teenage girl that designed a pickup inspired by her favorite shampoo bottle or something.

I agree 100%. But, IMO, putting some real tires on it, tires with real sidewalls, would fix about 50% of what ails it. It would still look too "swoopy" for my taste but it wouldn't be nearly so hideous.

I guess I don't understand the driving force (so to speak) of low profile tires.

Change the rims, too. It's a truck. Trucks are for work. Not Puffdaddy concerts.
Low profile tires are for sports cars because they don't squirm as much in corners due to the side-wall. They are also for Puffdaddy concerts because they allow more bling bling in the wheel-well without increasing the size of the wheel-well.
The whole contraption looks hideous. The rims are just the stake through the heart. I'm not one to tie masculinity to a vehicle (I drive a college girl single mom's compact SUV for crying out loud), but if a guy got out of that truck, I'd have a hard time not judging him.

That picture says "photoshop by..." - it's a mockup someone did. The real version doesn't have those wheels, or that pasted on CX5 front end.

Looks like they updated the styling for 2016. Much improved, although still a Ranger once you get past the grill. Even has a Ford steering wheel with a Mazda badge attached.
