I was messin around with the car today and realized it was time for a new air filter i went with a shot one cause my old one was melting a pipe lol but what it this plastic piece i pulled out of the old one?

Intake air temperature sensor. can be in the filter or hanging in the bay.

are you serious it can just hang there lol as you can tell im not real car savvy im learning it was in my old one but the new filter i got doesnt have enought room in the rubber to cut a hole
