What is the temperature of exhaust gas?

I was just curious for those of you with EGT gauges to what kind of temperatures are you getting?

I am planing on piecing together my own 3" exhaust system and I was thinking of using some hi temp silicone couplers to link the pieces together. I found some 4 ply armid couplers that are rated at 500 degrees, I'm guessing that exhaust gases to not get that hot, maybe 300 degrees or so, I could be wrong.....anyone know?

i think at the manifold its somewhere around 1200+, not sure after the turbo. i dont think i would use silicone couplers though.

silicone couplers are used for direct turbo applications and withstand 500 degree continuous temp. I don't see why they couldn't be used to link a couple of pieces of 3" tubing together, especially down a way from the turbo,

see www.hitempsilicone.com

i would save up the bones and go to a muffler shop to get everything done right hopefully nothing will go wrong. your call tho man good luck

exhaust get much hotter then 300 degree fahenheit. it gets hotter than 500 degree celsius. these silicone couplers are made for intercoolers not exhausts.

if you're looking for easy ways to connect up exhaust pipes, check out exhaust band clamps. they are tons cheaper than silicone and designed for connecting exhaust pipes.

this is a great site if you're looking for materials to buildyour own exhaust or intercooler piping. i bought some pipes from them before and they have some of the best prices and best selections of stainless steel pipes, flanges, clamps, hangers, gaskets, whatever you need for you custom exhaust and they ship superfast.

i actually still have the pipes i bought from them, never used them b/c i ended up buying an exhaust instead.

if you're interested hit me a pm.

from more research it seems silicone is not the way to go. I found that exhaust temps can reach 1K degrees or more....do you guys know what the inlet size is on the Mazdaspeed muffler? I assume it is the same as the pipe diameter 2.25"? how are people going with custom 3" exhausts and retaining the stock MSP muffler?

the straight and mandrel bent pipes are 2-1/2 OD and the flex is 2-1/2 ID.

the straight pipe is 3' long, the flex pipe is i think 10" long. you can see it from the picture, i put a 1' long ruler next to it.

indeed, save up the money and get it done right, an exhaust is an investment and should be done right, i believe you will be much happier with the outcome right when you get it and years from now since there will be prabably no problems if you get it done professionally

if you designed it and tapped it all together and took it to a muffler shop it would cost you like 50 bucks to have them weld it. Much better then binding it with clamps

anyone ever done tig welding? supposed of all welding it takes the most skill. I was just curious to how difficult it would be to weld the pipes together myself. that is assuming I could get my hands on a tig welder which is not likely........besides I haven't welded anything since high school shop class....
