What's holding back our 3.7L vs the Ford Edge, Mustang, or MKX that all have 305hp out of the same powerplant?

Power increase is due to intake cam and timing. Ford made changes to their 3.7 beginning in 2011 switching to twin independent cam variable timing(Ti-VCT).

The engine of MKX has multiple changes over the CX9's
- Ti-VCT
- higher compression (10.5 vs 10.3)
- dual CATs (less restrictive)
It definitely costs more to build.
