Can someone please explain the difference between these 2 systems? Also what are their functions. I hear some members remove VTCS. If you do, what are the gains. Thanks. Just want info. Might buy intake from Ken.

VTCS - Variable Tumble Control System
This is the flaps in the intake manifold that are right next to the head ports. What this system does is provides assistance with cold start emmissions by enhancing the swirl mixture of the fuel and air in the cylinder.

VICS - Variable Inertia Charging System
What this does is enhances the intake charge through use of a resonance chamber.

Attached are the diagrams of each system from the shop manual.

I don't think you will gainmuch from just removing the VTCS. The MP3 was not supplied with this, and was only rated with 10hp more than the ES / Protege5. Most of that was from recalibration of the ECU. I think most of the gains will be from the mild porting also performed when removing the VTCS valves.

Thanks for your help ! I wonder if I got the intake Ken is selling would be an improvement? Possibly having it and my head ported and polished to match.
