Hey all,

I've caught the mod bug and have been looking for exhaust mods but all this DP, TP, CBE, Catless, etc is getting me confused.

What exactly is everything and what does it do?
Sorry, me = n00b

downpipe = connects to turbo, before the test/midpipe. Some downpipes include testpipe

Testpipe= between the downpipe and the Catback. Some have a car, some are Catless. Cats cause restriction, removing them creates more power

Catback exhaust = the piping behind the cat/testpipe back, includes teh exhaust tip. Some say the stock is efficient enough, others argue that it should be changed for the best flow.

as for what everything does, it all flows the exhaust away from the cabin.

So going in order, it'll be Turbo outlet => Downpipe => Test/Mid => Cat/Catless Exhaust.

Would a car running catless pass SMOG regulations?

Also, whats a TBE?

Also should mention that the noise level of your exhaust will be much louder if you replace everything turbo back.

RP= race pipe which is the exact same thing as a test pipe, different people just call it different things. Some say test pipe is for street, race pipe is for strip. but same concept. hope this info helps

You are in California. If you touch anything but a CBE (cat back exhaust), you will fail smog. No DP, no TP, nothing catless.

That's a 10-4 on that. You can do it and switch it out before inspection. Alot of people do that which is a hassel

hey guys is it worth getting a FMIC. another question if i put a dp and tp will i get a check engine light. and do you think ill pass smog in VA. wut if i put a short test pipe and leave the cat.

FM has shown to be more efficient, and i personally think it looks kick ass.

If you get a DP, you can get one that has a cat, and it will be one peice including the test pipe. there are 2 peice DP/TP peices, but it depends what quality and how much your willing to spend. the right DP wont throw a CEL and will pass emissions. VA dosent do Emissions testing though.... never have had mine tested

Yeah, if you're in California, go with a DP/RP with high flow cat(s). You should pass emissions and have no check engine light (CEL) problems.

The DP and the factory lower flow cats are the real restriction on the exhaust side. You'll get more bang for the buck by far than with an aftermarket cat back.
