What have you done to your P5 today?

So you're saying if you don't drive a race car then why remove any interior (ie dead weight)? I'm not attacking you or anything, just curious. I rarely ever used my rear seats, if anything, I was always putting the down to haul stuff. So I pulled them out to save weight and make the car handle better and quicker. Why not?

bgibb, you mean to remove just the boot and not the ball joint? Good luck there, buddy. I would think you would need to remove the hub from the ball joint to remove the old one and replace it with the new one. And removing the hub from the ball joint is a task all in itself. A PITA, but not impossible.

well it's already torn apart.....had a bad whell bearing on pass side so i replaced both....then the tie rods and saw the ball joint boot pretty much gone......all have a new half shaft......been a busy week with working 50 hours plus this POO
 
Well since the old one is already torn you can rent a ball joint seperator locally, or buy one from HF. There isn't much room to work with in there with our cars, but you'll get it. Just use lots of PB Blaster and it will probably take a few whacks with a big mallet but they'll come out. Then grease up the ball joint, replace the boot and line up the ball joint and slide it back in. I used my jack to raise the control arm back into the ball joint hole. Use lots of PB Blaster or WD-40 again and put that 12mm bolt/nut back in and you're golden. I replaced both lower control arms a few months ago. Ball joints are about as fun as replacing axles. Boo.
 
i used my mag light housing and hammered the boot down.....it's supposed to be pressed on.....and yay me.....gotta order a new drivers side axle now.....another couple days in truck without ac in nc

exactly... whats the point of removing it honestly?? your really gain absolutely nothing but maybe a hair of a second?? maybe.. thats pretty pointless in my opinion.. you removed maybe 150lbs in weight maybe?? that doesn't really make a big difference.. actually i think it would hurt you more since now your car weight distrabution is off.. heavy in the front and empty in the back.. not really better on handling.. and not to mention looks tacky. and if your car isn't for racing then why even bother reducing weight?? thats my point.. ok i get it you never used your backseat and you haul stuff in your wagon.. but as far as handling and making it quicker mmmm not likely.. i'm not trying to make you look stupid or anything. personally i just do not see the point.. especially for a street car.. but like i said to each his own
 
Well, every bit helps. Some cats say "what's the point of that mod when you only gain 1whp?". But if you add up all the 1whp mods you could have 15whp more than the other car who didn't bother with the little mods. Same with weight savings, every little bit helps. The less weight, no matter how minimal the car has, the faster it will be. That's just a fact. And as far as weight distribution, my car still handles great. And think about it, all race cars do this. They all gut their cars. But it's not like their going to put weight in the rear of the FWD car to offset this.

I'm one of the guys who doesn't understand why people want their car to go fast then add 200lbs of subs and amps to the trunk. My P5 will be a track car next season so it's going to get gutted even more. Function over fashion = tacky? I beg to differ, good sir.

But it's all gravy. :)
 
lol but thats my point your doing it cuz your going to track your car... you made it seem like you just did it just for ***** sake lol so actually your agreeing with me in a way cuz the reason you do that is to win a RACE..... yes agreed on every bit helps which is why when i go to the track i empty out my trunk(subs, tools. jacks, random kid toys that my brats left etc).. but i still love the fact that i have full interior.. plus removing them won't help me i'll just roast tires anyways..

performance is always > appearance
 
But I removed my interior before I even had a track day, and I haven't even tracked it this year. It's still quicker even though it's just a street car. So it sounds like you don't bother pushing your Protege on the street since you've got your subs in the back and a full interior. I like my P5 feeling nimble as my daily driver and removed the interior to make it quicker and handle better.

Then again, I also had a completely gutted 93' EG hatch that never saw a track day. It's all about performance for me. :)
 
Tuned it a little. hit 6psi for the first time since the oversize valves went in. They flow a TON more air,
im adding way more fuel compared to my old tune.
Still feels slow, prob gonna put the boost controller in and turn it to 10psi and tune for that
 
lol it still doesn't make that much of a difference.. and your last comment explains alot... cause thats definately a honda thing.. but hey they need all the help they can get.. i laugh at them with my system blaring and my ac on full blast lol

whats your afr?? turning up the boost will lean it out and it will prob feel alot smoother/faster.. why did you put in new valves?? did somethin happed to your head??
 
nothing better then a car that can perform without having to lose any luxuries... i have no need to remove anything really.. lol but hey some ppl need to
 
lol all i'm sayin is i don't see the point in it.. plenty of proteges run great times without removing anything.. but everyone has their own style so it is what it is :)

but anyway back onto the thread topic.. i finally ordered a timing kit for my p5 so should have that thing back on the road ina few weeks
 
So your carbon fiber hood, trunk and door pillars are to reduce weight or just for show?
