What have you done to your P5 today?

cost really isn't an issue for me (though it does slow the process down a bit lol), yeah i realize that it will be costly, but by the time that i do everything na that i can i will at least know that i can somewhat reliably run the car and then go turbo from there and yield some decent power while not going to crazy on the tune and break my only DD. (so in the next 3 years or so i plan to get to about 200 hp at the crank and be happy with it)

200hp from NA only? ? ? ? ? edit-i reread, 200 with NA build and boost added later

and both Rob and I's cars popped without any boost

hell... my motor popped at 170 with boost.... and then again i had a motor make 300+ for about 190 miles.. on a stock bottom end...

An na build on this car to actually gain decent power would have higher compression pistons, cams, gears, ems with timing control to start. This would have to be undone in order to go FI later! Two completely different directions.

Noticed that my sway bar ends were pointing straight up...time to re-adjust those endlinks...lol.

A good inch and a half longer should do it...lol.

very true, but it will also help convince the fianc how cost effective it would be to cryo a spare engine and do a build for it that way so i can have an extra engine lying around :)

lol, that's win right there!!

Build the engine in the car for NA and the spare motor for boost!!

N/A build goes the opposite direction that you would want for an F/I build. It's your car, but I feel like you're gonna throw away a lot of $$. Why not just forge for F/I now? Upgrade suspension and then you will have good reliability and handle tight.

*Edit, I think I was slow on this... lol

Well for one, a turbo build yields low compression while an N/A build calls for high compression.

true, and i really can't spare to have the car out of comission so might as well have an engine that i can build correctly that is out of the car and get that tuned and ready to go while having something in the car already that I can scoot around in

its a term Dave Coleman made popular/ possibly coined when he was building a SR20 swapped 240sx for SCC....back before it was the cool thing to do

Well, that still doesn't really answer my question unless I'm not picking up on something here... Why did Coleman call the turbo a "disco potato" anyway? I miss SCC...

I know a guy that would laugh at your face for saying that. Like Korey said, it's easier & safer, but when done right, I've seen the results of high compression and boost, and it's scary F-ing fast (and generally yields a pretty flat torque curve)

yep the honda guys have learned how to do high boost and compression very well

i miss SCC from when coleman was there...i actually learned stuff from that magazine then. Thank the car gods that grassroots motorsport magazine exists. I cant remember why he called it a disco potato sadly i probably have that issue packed away somewhere
