What have you done to your MSP today?

Anyone want to come to Knoxville and work on my girlfriends Jetta? I'm kinda over it.

So took the MSP to a local performance shop to have the exhaust manifold gasket replaced, and find out the valve cover and thermostat gaskets need to be replaced also. Freaking $450 for parts and labor.

I know! I just don't have the time nor the tools to be doing that kind of work since I go to school full-time and work. Ugh, looks like new parts for the MSP will be put on hold.
That will take no more than an hour for even the most novice person and it requires a 12mm (for the two thermostat housing bolts) and a 10mm (for the valve cover retaining bolts and coil retaining bolts).

Laser Blue, I love that first shot. Where is that?

Its just a regular public street in Tigard (southwest Portland) Oregon. The landscaping behind the car is part of a large condominium complex. I liked the look too and had the camera in the car, so I just stopped and took the pic.

go blow that place up....literally. Thermostat gasket and valve cover gaskets are cheap and the amount of work it takes to do both is next to nothing. $450 my ass, the exhaust manifold gasket also is a fairly quick job. If you were to do it yourself and buy all the gaskets, you wouldn't even spend $100. You would probably spend around $15-$20, $30 tops. That's just a guess. But paying that much for that little bit of work is a major ripoff. Even if you were to go buy just the tools you would need for the gaskets, you wouldn't get anywhere close to that amount. Honestly, being in school fulltime, Im sure 450 is a pretty good hit on the pocket. All of this can be done in no time. The only way to learn about these cars is to jump in and get your hands dirty, especially if you plan on modding the car. That is unless you plan to pay for that too. Hell, I have never done anything more than a simple tune up or oil change on my car until a few years ago when I started modding and time came up for a water pump and timing belt. Took advantage of that and added FSZE cams during the timing belt/water pump replacement. Take a weekend and knock these out, first time doing it will be the longest. But will become quicker over time. But either way, on a beginner scale, this should be a 2 or 3 out of 10. But whatever you do, don't spend a truck payment on this task

Really starting to fear that I may actually be having head gasket issues. My cars problems have gotten way less noticeable since doing everything that was mentioned to me in the help/problems section, but it's starting to show symptoms. I'm trying to stay optimistic, but I've noticed my coolant boiling in my overflow tank a few times in the past few drive cycles. After letting my car sit overnight, when I start it I'm getting a lot of white smoke out of the the exhaust and I can hear a hissing sound that is associated with the rpms. From what ive read that could be a gasket issue. It gets more noticeable and louder as I accelerate. It sounds like a vacuum leak in my cold pipe but I've redone the route and checked for leaks several times and come up with nothing. My boost gauge reads like -17 now at idle so there's an obvious problem somewhere. I've had three people try to find leaks other than myself: two of them being a mechanic and they cannot find any leaks either. Good news so far is my car is not overheating at all(at least according to the temp gauge) my oil/oil cap does not appear milky and I'm not noticing any coolant leak. hoping to get a boost leak tester, and flush the cooling system as well as replace the radiator cap. Hoping it's a combination of small problems and not the danger of problems ahead. Definitely don't have money for a serious issue right now

Ever since I bought the car I've done basically everything myself (replaced WGA, brakes, oil, AXR bracket, etc.) and have been learning slowly but surely. Although, every time I do some kind of work to it I run into problems, mostly from not having the correct tools and such. I seriously considered doing the exhaust manifold gasket myself, until I spoke with a buddy of mine who told me breaking a stud is a really common problem when doing so, and can become a big hassle. So I thought, I'll just have a shop do it for me, that way if a stud or something breaks they'll be able to fix it correctly and quickly. But after I took it in they told me the other 2 gaskets needed to be replaced, so I just said **** it and let them do it. Now after reading what you guys have told me, I am seriously regretting not attempting to do it on my own. (hand)

Just got my Eibach springs. Also have a set of 50k HPs that I may sell or keep as a back up for an unfortunate incident.
