I never got mine dyno'd but I was happy with the gains from installing the CustomMSP SMIC and I don't remember ever getting heat soaked again so I say you should get one. Do you have a EMS yet?

personally, I agree with doing something different (my last 2 sport compacts have been production of 800, and the MSP), but if its not done with my own 2 hands its still the shop's unique, sweet car, not my car. I'd rather have a mild build done in my own garage than something off the wall I paid someone else to make for me.

I agree with you again, but I've learned that if you are not a Mechanic don't play to be one because at the end you'll learn the lesson the hard way just my .02


Dont' get me wrong i've done lots and i mean lots of stuff to my car my self, I just leave the most delicate part to somebody that have the knowledge and tools to do the job right from the first time.

Fair enough. Will a unichip be enough? We're venturing into realms that I have no clue about. I'm amazing with the mechanical knowledge of the cars, but we start getting into terbows and elektoniks and I have no clue what's going on!

Reasons for not getting a FMIC:

Additional gains not worth the extra money over SMIC
Better throttle response with SMIC
Stealth
Keeps the car closer to stock / easier to mask the aftermarket SMIC

No EMS yet, but I do wanna get rid of the heat soak. CustomMSP is the next mod to the car. Prolly in the next week or two

You will be happy with the SMIC and from what you told me you probably wont need a Unichip. I think a Split Second AFC will be all you need and save you some money. I will be getting rid of mine in a couple months or so to upgrade, I will follow up with you to see if your interested when the time comes.

I prefer the SSAFC over the unichip... but its a preference thing.

my FMIC was VASTLY cheaper than the SMIC cost.. about half of new, it is a small enough core that I maintain throttle response/spool time
i have it hidden behind the stock grille
minimal modification was necessary.

Yeah, I remember we talked about your FMIC before and I know where you're coming from. Honestly it mostly has to do with stealth and maintaining the car as stock as possible. I want to limit the amount of things that can go wrong, as well as be able to easily switch out the IC if I want to go race SCCA G-stock.

What's the differences between the SSAFC and the Unichip (Cost, installation, tuning ease, etc?)

my stock IC is mounted. I could swap them simply by changing out one hot pipe piece, and one cold pipe piece by removing silicon couplers.. easier than having to physically swap the IC.

SSAFC is cheaper, and end-user tunable.

unichip is more expensive, but includes boost control and the ability to switch between 2 maps, and is NOT end-user tunable.

Stick with the SMIC plan. Easy installation and you keep the stock look. And the difference between the SSAFC and Unichip is the Unichip is a couple hundred bucks more and you can tune the AFC yourself vs. the Unichip you have to pay a tuner to tune.
