What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

....just watch out for that snap oversteer and 3 wheelin'

imo if you are at stock ride height you should upgrade the FSB as well

really? ive never heard of any oversteer problems with upgrading the rsb on the 5. and im sure the fsb is a biotch to change.

I've been running my bar on the medium setting. On one occassion I felt it get a little light in the rear but I was driving like an ass. I dive-bombed into a 270 degree exit ramp while hard on the brakes coming into it. It was so faint I barely noticed the rotation. Felt great.

For a minivan this thing handles excellent with some good tires and the RSB. I honestly think it has more steady state cornering grip than my stock Sentra Spec-V. Just wish it had the same get up and go.

I need to edit that I drive fast, not abusive. You can do both and take care of your car at the same time. The Sumitomo HTR ZIII tires on those MSP wheels have 34k miles on them and are getting replaced tomorrow. The 08 went back to the dealer with 44k miles on it and the front brake pads had more than 50% left in them.

New tires...

Went a little more conservative this time. I put on a set of Kumho Solus KH25 in a 225-45R18 tonight. Not as responsive but I expected that. A lot of tread squirm on these full depth tires compared to the 2/32nds baldies that were removed.

I have heard testers talk of oversteer in emergency maneuvers but I never drive it that hard for any reason to experience it. I would be concerned if putting the bar made it that much more prone to it. I would expect the bar to reduce oversteer since the weight transfer would be better controlled, but things dont always work as predicted!

Washed her and took a couple Pics at the Pagoda here in Reading

Low and clean.

I did a claybar and used a Meguiar polish and wax in one... obviously not as good as a three step polish which my car will need next year but for winter protection purposes it should do the job since we rarely get enough sun to show the swirls. Sorry no pics as it's been raining non stop since Friday. :(

I plan to get a full compliment of detailing goodies from Griot's Garage next year. Not cheap but it's the good stuff. Their 6" random orbital is considered the best of the best in the industry.

Not me, but my wife scraped the front fender/bumper cover on the garage door frame this morning. It's not horrible, most of it is just paint that scraped off the door frame and will come right off with a little polishing compound. The hard part is going to be keeping the bumper cover fastened as that part is jacked up a little.

On a 'brighter' note, I ordered LEDs for the dome/cargo/map lights (and for my Accord), hopefully they'll be here by the weekend.

This may sound nuts but try a Mr Clean Magic eraser on that, you will be surprised.

Just make sure to tell her to focus on the garage paint and stop as soon as its all gone. I didn't see any paint damage on the car when I tried it but I would be careful of overdoing it.

Yes. This early, I spent the morning changing to winter tires. Realized I'm getting too old for this. I expect one-week of back ache to follow this. lol.

Lower left is the Nitto 'all season' there was no way it would work as good as the hankook I-pike winter tire (lower right).

What are the size of those tires? I was thinking of going to a larger profile tire like those for everyday driving, I'd use all-season Michelins on them. I'm in central Illinois, not that much snow here.

The thing that bothers me about the stock size is that it seems that people are changing them out every 20,000 or 25,000 miles, I'm used to tires lasting for 50,000 or 60,000 miles. I don't want to sepnd $800 every two or two and a half years on new tires.

I installed the soft cargo liner. Took about 45 seconds and it looks pretty good too! Seems to be of similar construction to a car "bra". I really think Mazda should have included black carpet for the trunk area regardless of the interior color. The Sand color is too light for a vehicle that is Multi Activity :)

I don't think the size is going to affect the wear rating, it's a compound issue. most tires in this size are 'performance' oriented, sticky compounds which wear quicker.
FWIW, I just got continental extremecontact DWS's in the stock size; they have a 50K treadwear warranty, where most others were around 30K.

Got another letter from mazda today!

damn, just a bill from mazda credit. darn. only $8800 left to go!

I put the LED dome, cargo, and map lights in yesterday. An improvement, nothing crazy that makes you go wow, but better lighting for $20. I wish I had gotten different map lights though, a narrower beam would work better than what I got.
