What happens after 5000rpm???

Hi everyone. I have been looking for a sporty 4dr and of course the Speed6 is on my list. I test drove one yesterday and was very suprised that the car totally dies after 5000rpm. Is this something that can be overcome and what exactly do you need to do?

Here's a pic from street unit show a before and after a 3 inch catless down pipe install. You can clearly see where the car makes it's peak HP at.

Point taken, but you would expect that a car that redlines at 6000rpm+ would at least have some power with 1000rpm to go. The Audi A3 I drove has 73 less hp, but actually feels faster to me because of this. I was just curious if there is a re-flash or something that is not too expensive that has been done to rectify this.

We have an A4 and it sure is a Torquey little B*tch, And thats what you're feeling, but I'm sure the one you drove is an DSG? If so you probably are not shifting good enough in the MS6, The MS6 IS much faster than anything with the 2.0T, DSG is one of the best transmissions ever, but shift at like 5800RPMs and you should be just fine.

depending on the year, yes. the 07 should have been flashed from the factory, the 06 may need it still.
either way, yes it dies at 6000 RPMs. but with 6 gears, you've always got room to shift...

bingo. And by the time you get to 6.....well, most things are behind you.....just better not be a cop.

Mazda designed the car to open the electronic throttle once you get to about 6000 rpm. Safety factor I guess. Currently there is no way to override this due it being part of the integrated computer systems
