what gives best hp gains?

so here's my problem...i have a 2001 yellow mp3 an I finally realized after I bought the car that there are just not a lot of parts for it at all...I mean the only normal looking exhaust on all of the websites that I have looked at is the corksport exhaust, which is illegal to begin with, otherwise you have to get some goofy lookin borla exhaust or something like that...I just want to know what mods I can do to the car, besides a turbo, to gain the most horsepower because the car is slow...someone please give me some advice...

How is the exhaust illegal? A cold air intake gives good gains. Go check out the NA forum if you don't want to go forced induction.

there are WAYYYY more parts available that you are finding. Though we don't have Honda's or DSM's we have a good selection of parts available

if you want a cheap, relatively good hit to the power, then get a header (though this would be illegal as well) . adding an exhaust (of almost any brand) in conjunction with this header would make it pretty loud though.

just do some searching on this forum, you'll find tons of parts.

yup back then in 2001 ther was nothin at least nothin for cheaps i remember because i tired to look for it, but now they have more companys makin parts form mazdas becuase they c that mazdas are startin to get popular with sports cars. u just have to look around some people even try to get gb for us, just look in the for sale sections too they have used parts for sale as well

intake, header, and exhaust combo would be a great start. If you look around you can get all three for about 600-700 shipped to you

dont want a turbo? there is a supercharger that is almost available. Also, the Wagner shorty header is not an illegal header. It actually shows more whp gain than a 4-1 header that removes the pre-cat.

Do your homework...search around. There is stuff out there. Turbo's aren't the only way to make power.

oh i really do want a turbo but I just dont have money for it right now because I'm still in high school and not bringing in a lot of cash, but hopefully in time I will be able to...I was also wondering if a lot of the parts for the protege 5 will fit the mp3 because they seem like practically the same car...

The Mp3 makes about 106whp and about 115wtrq.The best thing to do is get rid of the cats. Yes it is illegal, just keep your stock exhaust parts around and put them on for inspection and go back to the other stuff.
