What engine do I have?!?!

Since this is my first Mazda I'm not knowledgeable of the different types of engines. I have read that fsze cams in my 2.0 are a good upgrade with a longer duration. But how to figure out exactly what engine I have and what upgrades I can do to it from other motors would be nice to know. Or would I be better off just doing a motor swap? O. And this isn't the motor that came factory. Previous owner installed a used one. So I guess I need to look at stamping on the block?

All protege5s came with the fsde. Odds are, thats what the po put in. Unless they put in an fsze, in which case you'd already have the cams.

Alright. And the fsze has more of a duration correct? So pop off VC and take a look? And if its the fsde, I can just swap camd straight up and they'll work?

Crack open the valve cover and have a look at the cams. The ZE intake cam should be stamped FSH9, according to the thread below.
