If this is a completely stupid thought, let me know and I'll delete my post (so as to hide my stupid-tracks!)... but, don't people who run with nitrous blow white smoke from the hood or wheel-wells when they're clearing their lines (before next boost)? Could it have been that?

it could be, but i doubt he was purging at those speeds. purging is done before running to get the air out of the lines and to get nitrous right up to the solenoids. plus, if he calls his turbo setup by stages rather than what's really in it, he's most likely not running nitrous at the same time as his turbo.
