IIRC, Automobile magazine did a little review on the SVT Cobra in their June issue, I think they said they're surprised that this car actually has some handling capability, and now that the F-body has been defeated, Ford is targeting the Cobra to a bigger and badder target (ie REAL sports cars, not muscle cars), what that would be is yet to be seen....

so what do you think from 0-to Topspeed who would win. I'll ask by brother in law if he can take a Cobra cause i know he smoked the crap out of a Eclipse GSX by a whole lot of car lenghs at least 40 whats that 1/4 of mile. He gave the GSX a headstart they were both going 85mph the GSX dropt his gear punched it and it was gone at least at 120mph then my brother in law just puched the crap out of the Beast and already at 135mph passing him like it wasn't nothing and he just kept in going to 145mph and let off cause there were to many cars up ahead and slowed down to about 70mph. The GSX was barely creeping up and didn't go faster tried to stay at a pace behind us but unfortunately he just passed us up couple min.... later giving us the mean ugly look while we just laughed.

are those numbers from the rx7 for stock?? cuz if they are i would disagree with teh 1/4 mile and the topspeed...

my brother in law has a '93 rx-7 when he ran it stock quarter mile times were high 13s at best and we topped out at 150mph...

anyways back to my point...yeah american V8s...they'll eat you up in a straight line but what else are they good for...

Well I think sometimes American muscle gets a bad name for handling...I mean it's not like you are running on broken shocks/springs and flat tires....having said that, if you gave me the choice of a 3rd Gen RX7 minty new and the Cobra....I'd take the RX7 without a second thought.

yeah but these numbers were based on experienced drivers, your brother in law ran high 13's 13.7-13.9 but i bet if it were a experienced driver the #'s would have been mid to low 13's. And yeah that's stock and there's no way the Topspeed is at 150mph i have proof that the Topspeed is 167mph Car and Driver posted it long long time ago but i know it's on the mazda website to, and i know Muscle cars are fast but common now V-8 superchared 135more horses as 172 more pounds of torque and 6-speed tranny vs. a 1.3litre TWIN TURBO 5-speed tranny. #'s are basically the same at least.

well...perhaps there are just differences in conditions...but all i know is we topped out around 150mph...and by the way he's been racing for 6 years drag, track, autocross,...hes your basic gearhead

Maybe you guys had somethings in your car to hold the weight down or something. Was his car limited at 150mph for awhile or he gave up, cause when my brother in law went to 145mph he just let off and it hauled from 85 to 145mph. but this one site i saw i couldn't find it but it said stock low 13's and topspeed was 167mph. everybody else achieved basically 160mph.

yeah...i was talking to my bro in law earlier...he's part of several rx7 boards (i think he spends more time there then with my sister lol)...anyways...he says a bunch of other rx7 owns say that stock the car should reach around 155-157mph top and run mid(13.5-13.9) to high 1/4mi...he said that the 167mph stock is probably just hot air...that's what his opinion was at least...

anyways...i think we can all agree that they're both kicka$$ cars and i'd probably drive either except for the mustang...lol
