ever since i have been on here, i have read about hundreds of races with faster cars then the MSP. And everytime i read a story about an MSP keeping up with or beating a "should-be" faster car, it always resorts back to..."well if you beat it or kept up with it, then the other person must not have known how to drive"... i really dont understand this. Am i missing something about driving a manual car? is there more to it then really changing gears? im not being sarcastic... if you guys have any advice, or knowledge on what "better driving" is on a manual car then pease let me in on it.
thanks- rich

Your from tom's river? We use to play your school in football.

hahaha, i understand the whole changing gears, but when i race i usually just punch it till i feel its right. i am assuming around 5200 RPM's... is that too much too little? whats considered a perfect shift?

thats sick, what school did you go to?

A bad driver will take more time to shift gears than a good driver.

This has much more effect when racing from a standstill versus a rolling start. It takes practice and skill to quickly launch a car with a manual transmission.

yeah i knew all of that, i just didnt know if it were more intricate. but is there a certain amount of recommended RPM's to switch gears at? What exactly is a perfect shift?

Every car is different and even the same model car will vary slightly. A shift point for for me in the MSP is usually around 4-500 under redline. Well used to be, I have a lot bigger turbo now so it's hard to compare. I just shift at the redline now.

Alright, i was just making sure... i just took a ride upto 37 last night lookingfor someoen to test other shift patterns on and i felt that my car pulls the hardest around 5800-6300.

i go up to 7g if im racing hard, but i try to keep it down to redline

you are just asking to blow your engine up. you out of the power band at that high of rpm.

Is there any point in shifting after peak power.

u need to be more specific mutmatt. shifting at 7 grand is not the way to go but its still after peak power. you dont want to shift right at peak power or you wont have the full effect. however, we are talking a matter of tenths of seconds. dont shift at or after redline. shift before redline.
