What do we think about this eBay listing?

IMHO the listing says it only gives you about 5 hp gain which to me isnt worth it. i'd say use the money for something else like shifter bushings

Have you looked into this mod at all? It's not all its cracked up to be. I'd save your cash for something more potent.

Balance shafts help smooth out engine harshness and vibration. They help the motor last longer, by having it stay together.
My 944 turbo has 2 balance shafts, partly because it's a massive 4 banger that rumbles like a diesel, and mainly to keep it from falling apart.

I just read into this a little more. The stock balance shaft weighs 18 lbs. It doesn't gain much in terms of hp, but it has some other effects, such as more vibration and increased throttle response (I'd assume because of less inertial mass tied to the crankshaft).

To install, drop the oil pan, remove the oil feed tube, and remove the balance shaft. Install the BSD cover, clean the gasket off of the pan, apply new gasket seal, and be done.

Agreed that you will not pick up too much hp, however you do pick up a quart or so of oil capacity, and it has been theorized that the balance shaft assembly robs the #3 piston of oil, I'm partial to believe that now.......

If I did do this, I'd definitely put the baffle in the oil pan as well. Was it your #3 cylinder that took a s***?

Affirmative. Right through the back of the block from what i saw. I haven't even looked at it in the air at the dealers, don't want to. i know it will just be like (omg)

so if you have the extra cash it is worth it? also, if you have motor mounts, wont that help far more than a balance shaft? as long as engine integrity is not lessened i would like this asap i like the vibrations, now i have an ass warmer and a massage chair, recaro who?

I think if you have the rear mount, you might feel the effects more than someone with a stock mount, but the reduced inertial mass on the crankshaft would be a good thing. I also like that this allows you to finally flush your oil out between changes. If I buy the BSD, I'm definitely doing the oil pan baffle at the same time. My only concern now is the sealant on the oil pan to prevent any leakage.

so other mods need to be made? my friend's shop does my oil changes, will everything work normally? (will their oil change guy know what to do?)
