Seriously though, reputation points seem to be a way of rating members on what the bring to the table. Your reputation will improve if your posts are informative, or at least add to the community in some way and go down if they are not. It serves as a way to gauge who is giving you advice.

For instance: my reputation points went down as a result of my above post, as it didn't bring much to the thread, aside from my lame sense of humor. (braindead

normally, yes. But we've blown that out of the water :)
 
we are reviewing the reputation points. They are suppose to be a fun way to keep people in check. If used correctly its also helpfull "dont take advice from someone that has a rep for giving bad advice."

we (the people in the rep thread) like the system the way it is. It gives us something to do.
