What did your dad do first ride/drive???

Just a thread to see what everyone's fathers (or mother for that matter) think of our 'lil rice burners'. I swear all of what you are about to read is the honest to god truth.

My dad's first drive was the day I bought my car. I had to get it about 3 hours away to find what I wanted, so it was a nice journey for me and my old man. I let him drive my car the last leg of the trip. I was in the lead in 'mom's minivan' and ended up passing a semi on a two lane highway that he could not get around. So I ended up about 3 miles ahead of him on the interstate. I called him right about the time he was getting on the ramp, to tell him that I'd been on an interstate with "no exits and no cops seen"......he immediately responded, with "I'll see you in a minute" and hung up the phone.

2 min later......

I see a black car in my review mirror which proceeds to FLY by me, my guess was 120ish. Yep its my 55 year old dad in my car, with the windows down grinning from ear to ear. He slows down and merges in front of me, then calls my phone....

"Son, I know you our grown and on your own, but I'd like to offer some advice. Take $100 every week and put it in an envelope and label that envelope 'Insurance & Tickets' because this thing is FAST!!! I was doing 115 and I was still on the on ramp, when I passed you I was just under 140. And when you want to sell I want first dibs."

Its the kinda thing I would have been grounded for life if I did it at 16, I guess things change when we get 'old' (I'm 25). And just to cover my dad's behind, I bought used, so he wasn't beating on a newborn that wasn't 'broken in'.

So lets hear what your dad/mom did.....

My pops never drove my Mazda... but I did toss him the keys to my 306WHP Subaru Legacy...

Before he got in he told me he had a mustang at my age that had 300 hp and a 3 speed tranny.

Let's just say he scared himself shitless when he mashed the gas in first gear (peep)

Well, my dad hasn't driven or riden in my car. However, a good friend was visiting recently. I picked them up from Dulles Airport and proceeded to head home. At one point, I was already in 6th gear going about 55ish and just floored it. Now, obviously, being used to the acceleration in other gears, it wasn't really THAT impressive, but once the boost built up, it just pulled hard. My friend asked me 'What gear were you in?' to which I replied with a grin 'that was 6th gear.' 'Holy crap, my car doesn't accelerate like that in 3rd gear!' (He drives a '04 Civic EX).

I also let him drive it into Baltimore and told him to have fun, but don't bother taking it to redline (and explained why). He had an awesome time accelerating onto the interstate but almost seemed to have more fun with 6th gear accleration from about 65-70 M.P.H. -- which is rather impressive. All he could ever say was basically 'That is just sick.'

So, perhaps not the 'my dad went 140ish' story... but it was fun to see my friend going nuts over 6th gear acceleration!!! LOL

My Dad drove the car the day after I got it, I did not tell him I got a ticket 20 minutes into owning the car (going 60 in 45 and not using turn signals while changing lanes). He said he wanted to take a drive in it so I agreed. I was sitting shotgun while he tested it out, he did some hard acceleration, never gunning it completely. I was the one who was kinda like OHH SHIIII in the passenger seat, he remained calm.
After we got home he just said I have a really nice ride, the only thing he said was to be careful not to get pulled over because that thing was crazy fast.

I think all dad's are worried about us getting tickets when it comes to fast cars.

sounds like the first time i was in the passenger seat with my dad behind the wheel. the car is fast/fun when driving, but it in the passenger seat its scary/fast

Well, the car I traded in for this car was a Volvo V70 T5, which I bought from my father. He was very disappointed that I was getting rid of the Volvo as it was the nicest car he had owned and one he had always wanted (until he got his V70 R). He said my car was an "econobox crap can" and that his car was faster and nicer . . . well, I'll give him the nicer part, but I think my car may be faster than his R. So, I let him take my car out, with me sitting shotgun.

First, we get on an on ramp, where he throws it around the corner and says "these are your winter tires?" to which I replied "yup". He then proceeded to lean on it a little and throw in through an offramp. When we got out, he didn't say much . . . which meant that he realized that my 30k CAD econobox was as fast and cornered as well (if not better) than his 65k CAD Volvo . . . made me quite happy (burnout)

I also let my mother drive it. She came back with a huge grin . . . I don't know what she did, but I know she had fun . . .

my dad always gives me s*** cuz he's one of those classic muscle car guys, and doesn't believe anything that has half the cylinders of a v8 should deserve tires.

albeit he was impressed when i took him for a ride, and i think he's just trying to one-up me with his next car, which he's saying will be a vette.

everyday he gives me s***

why not just buy 2 MS3's for the same price??

now if hes gonna get a z06 thats a different story, you just have to respect that and hope you can afford something that awesome someday

My dad hasn't seen my car. I seriously doubt he even knows what I drive. (Even though I did mention it do him.) We live about 600 miles apart, and he refuses to fly... so there you go. The last car he drove of mine was my 420 HP S/C G35 coupe. He said the car was "dangerous" and would "get me in trouble". Mind you he said all that with a big smile on his face as he punched it!

My dad's first ride in the car was about an hour after I picked it up from the dealership. He had been partial to the Civic SI, but after his first ride in the Speed3 he never mentioned it again. He was very pleased with the interior/ equipment of the car. And in the first ride he was in the backseat while my mom was shotgun, after a while he told me while cruising along "Son, I can't hear the engine, can you rev it a bit?" and I gave it maybe 1/2 throttle, enough for the boost to give a tug and scare my mom. After slowing down for a while he'd tell me that he couldn't hear the engine again...and so on...

I think the first time he drove it was on a Sunday morning, where he stole the keys while I was still sleeping. I just woke up and my car was gone. After a while he came in grinning and told me that the car was "quite dangerous".

My mom's favorite things were the seats... she couldn't care less about performance lol.

Ha! I hear you. My dad got excited because his new Tundra has dual climate control. He is a little behind the technology curve... God bless his heart.

hahahahahahaha, no s*** man.

in the past 5 years, i've watched my dad turn 'old.'
he's about 67 now, which isn't old at all, but i've seen him fall and get his feet stuck in between boards on a pallet...i've seen him get hurt. it sucks...
but he loves his all wheel drive 3 series.
dad, does this car have cruise control? "huh? cruise what? don't be ******* with that s***. STOP PRESSING THOSE BUTTONS."

that was an actual conversation i had with my dad.

my mom doesn't drive well...doesn't drive stick...and i will never let her behind the wheel of any car that i'm in, but i've taken her for drives when she visits me.

i gunned it once on the freeway, she turns to me and says, "philip, this isn't impressing me."
i lol'd
i also posted this in the unsuspecting passenger thread.
