Well, you got high performance cars (sti/evo etc) mixed in with luxery sport sedans(is300) an econo car, and pocket rockets. Kind of a strange mix isn't it? I bought a Speed because it's the best car in it's price range that I could afford.

But.

If I could afford to buy and live comfortably with an STI and performance was my main concern....then the Mazdaspeed wouldn't even be a consideration, nor would a rsx, Mazda 3 or a VW. Completely different cars.

And, if I just wanted a nice high quality, comfortable car with some umph to it, and I could afford the is300....I'd probably get a bimmer :)

But seriously, you need to pin point what's more important? Performance, reliability, style, uniqueness, luxury etc.

I want a balance between all (Performance, reliability, style, uniqueness, luxury etc.) but i am planning on keeping this car for awhile so i need something that will last and will keep me happy(fun to drive, keep me from getting bored).

With what you are saying; I would have to give strong consideration to the IS300 with a manual tranny (of course). That is a great car! And; nobody would argue Lexus reliability.

Yep, I never considered them until I just got bored one day and test drove it. Loved everything about it...

I'm going to RULE OUT the IS300 Lexus for him. I don't believe if he's under 30 years old, that is a car that really holds much fascination.

I used to love them, then woke up and looked at the same cars in the price range....waste of money.

Oh, add the SVT Cobra for that price range...it will (chair)all of the others....

With what you said you're looking for, I reiterate my fascination with the Legacy GT Turbo. It's right in that middle ground, and having the same motor as the STi, it'll take mods really really well...but you'll still look good driving it. Or...you could find yourself a couple year old Audi S4 bi-turbo. There's a great mix of styling, comfort, and performance. That'll cost you a ton less...I have a couple buddies that walked out the door for about $20k with relatively low mileage S4s (they're brothers and they both got one).

put a down payment for a STI or evo.. if i were u i wouldnt just go off and buy a car cause 1. u'll just spend all ur money on the car and have nothing left after 2. im sure u want to mod ur new car so with the extra money u can put it into the car? i mean its only logical .... but go for the STI or Evo...those two are the sweetest cars on the market right now...

The rally engines are your best bet if you're worried about reliability. The only thing is that your poll ranges from $17K (MSP) to $40K (STi) so it's tough to compare.
