What Can i Turn my boost up to with a FMIC, and Custom exhaust with no CAT?

I have on order the HIBoost FMIC. I just bought the MSP a week ago. The Orig owner put custom exhaust from the downpipe back. He also put on the Injen CAI kit, so i was wondering if i can SAFELY turn up the boost. I know fuel and timing are a issue when turning the boost up, but do you think i could put it up to 10psi without adding extra fuel or retarding the timing?

I say 9 psi is safe and 'enough' but that is if you are not on the pedal all the time and driving the car hard. You want to do anything safely, get some sort of engine management.

Basically if you increase the boost, you take your chances. I would not go to 10 psi without EMS. Some have blown at stock boost. Of course, alot depends on driving habits, etc. I has been shown that these cars are not very consistent in regards to what the engine, LSD, etc. can handle. If $ is the issue, then check out DSM's AFC. It is priced pretty cheap and will help you run 10 psi much safer, not to mention the gains you will get from the AFC alone. However, regardless of EMS, you have to keep in mind that the rods in this car a pretty weak. From what I've heard and experienced 250 hp is pretty much the max and that is like walking a tight rope. If you really want to build on this car, get EMS and forged internals. Otherwise, its all a gamble.
 
wait till you install the fmic and add some colder spark plugs before you boost 9-10psi.

these steps along w/ your downpipe & cai will greatly reduce your risk of detonation.

like many have said you should also look into the afc which will also conveniently double as a fuel cut eliminator which you will almost certainly encounter boosting more than stock.

good luck, they are hard to get. Look in the FS section for people selling theirs. For the money it was one of my better mods. Largest difference in performance for the dollar. Remember performance does not = HP, the car will pull faster... and your HP and especially your AFR curves will look much better.
 
With all my mods, I am boosting at 9.5-10psi. Getting about 190whp. But with the MPItuner I just ordered, I think I will get about 200-210whp with 10psi. I wouldnt want to go over 10 with stock internal. They are too weak!!!.

I noticed today I been only boostin 8 psi flat, 10psi peak

Normally its 9.5 flat, 10.5psi peak. I tired to go 11psi one time, the car just feel like s***. That's why I order the MPItuner.

I have never run my car above 8.5 flat I don't think. Mine spikes high.... I watch the HKS EVC II screen to watch the spike and flat. The marks on my Defi are not even.... so between 5-10 its hard to tell exact boost. And I actually have a AFC.

You should turn that boost down until that MPI is in... seriously.
 
I would not go over MSP Stock... of 6.5 - 7.5 PSI. Unless you have a couple of grand in the matress or in a Mayo Jar.

but the key is what were your mods when you did this? Were you tuned with ems? Did you ever get a dyno to see your a/f's?

I was doing 9.5 flat on the track. The car was find for the whole day, just my radiator couldnt cool fast enough.

I have a catless MAM, an Injen, JoeP MBC, and a hard motor mount. I really want a nice SMIC or FMIC with an MPI. I won't do anything more after that. I will buy a RWD car and just use the MSP as a daily driver.
 
Brian gets a lot of mileage out of the photo! I can almost see him pacing a sidewalk with that on a picket sign in front a tuner shop.

As in high? now that's funny (lol2) , considering I don't get high (yupnope) and I just got home from the gym where I had been running, (direct) and lifting weights for the past hour. (smash)

My car was bought with Joe P fuel cut installed, combined with running high boost. 3" exhaust and no EMS=========KABOOM
