What are these for?

I purchased my 2009 MazdaSpeed3 used. I noticed these two slots by the rear window, behind the driver's side rear seat. Does anyone know what these are for?

You can put the seat belt for the middle passenger in there.

Belt buckles will sit in there if you've got the seats down for more cargo room. This is especially nice in the summer wiith the windows down so they don't flap and bang around everywhere
