Weight reduction.

also don't rule out our stock hood...I read on here about a year ago that our stock hood weighs just under 50lbs on its own...without the hinges and fire retardant matting...And most aftermarket CF pieces are closer to 11-15lbs total...that is a huge reduction right off the front half of the car...more so than the AC...

i wouldnt say most... the only one i can think of is the one rishe had mad anything other that is all fiberglass with a CF overlay. I dont think DGM is even through and through CF. The downside to all CF hoods is you have to make sure that its a thick weave or your hood could easily buckle.

Has any one ever gotten lexan windows made for their Protege. My friend lost over 200lbs in windows alone in his IS300.

How hard is it to remove the AC? the rest of my car is gutted back seats out sound material spare tire ect. also have racing seats. I plan to put the entire GTspec bracing in and harnes bar. but i want to remove the AC. it was no problem in my Integra, but honda motors are mutch simpler.

Get a shorter belt and undo some bolts. You can remove the AC Condenser off teh front of the rad which will free up some more cooling...

You guys sure arn't very creative about losing some weight.

Ok, fill the whole car with a bunch of hydrogen filled baloons, that's gotta be a couple pounds there.

How's that for creative.

And what would you do smarty pants?

If you people want to lose weight to the extent of removing the a/c and a couple of you to remove the p/s I think a couple of things would lose even more weight.

If your removing the a/c and condenser...why stop there? What about half the heater box? What about the duct work? What about evaporator?
If you keep some of your accesories on the engine...what about the brackets? A few well placed holes or slots can make some good weight losses.
Remove the rear window regulators and lock the windows in up position(5-10lbs).
Since you no longer have the regulators and more than likely don't have a rear seat, remove the support and crash bars out of the rear doors...they are glued in and weigh around 10-15lbs a piece.
If your car is undercoated, get out your chemicals and scrapers, if not still get them out. I have seen as much as 75lbs. removed on undercoating alone. Remove the carpet, take the sound insulation out. Then get them chemicals out and remove the bonded sound deadening on the floor 20-30lbs.
Car has to appear stock? Cut out the stock battery, wire a tractor battery to the stock batteries terminals and place the tractor battery inside the stock battery (25lbs).
Subframe...Oh the subframe.. Lets just say if you look at it and can't see how to lose at least 30lbs. you aren't creative at all. There are many places to take weight out without reducing structrual integrity.
Front bumper support. Again. Easy 15-25lbs.
Rear bumper support. Again. Easy 15-25lbs.
Gastank. OMG.. the stock gas tank empty weighs at least 65lbs. It has more baffles, tubes, etc. than you can believe. How do I know, I've cut one open. With a couple of well placed baffles I think an easy 30-35lbs of weight removal is possible.

eh I'm tired.
Of course this is all for a track car. Saftey would be comprimised.

Nice (evil).....but I can do better. Why stop there anyways. The doors add alot of weight so why not remove them. and while your at it might as well remove the hood and trunk. bumpers..who needs them..s*** better air flow to your ic with the bumper off and since your bumper support beams are gone who needs bumpers. interior is only for show so might as well rip out your entire interior including seats, dash, carpet, etc. Theres alot more but now im tired. hope that helps (lol2)

Every car part is in there for a reason, you want less weight you gotta make sacrifices: safety, creature comforts, looks, etc. Unless of course you are replacing those parts with lighter weight ones, that can get expensive though.

yeah.. ive been looking for the prices on lexan.
i think with little bits here and there i could shave 200lbs unnoticed to the average joe.

spare tire
jack
cf hood
lexan? scared of the pricing..

...im going to go scan my car over real good today and see what i can come up with :)

well, i came up with nothing so far, but its -12c out there toDAY, i am not going out to look tonight.. -30c /w windchill

How's this for a stripped interior? 2250lb race weight. Too bad I weigh 300lbs. Those extra set of doors weigh only 20lbs each, with plexiglass windows.
