we got some boost issues..

hey everyone i havent posted on here for a long time but now that i have some issues i think its time i consult the pro's (meaning all of u). i should have posted this a long time ago but since winter my car has been having major boost issues. i live in saskatchewan so we get some harsh winters which ofcouse means fuel cut when i try to hit boost. i run 10psi in the summer and stock boost in the winter. so over the winter everytime i hit boost i would hit fuel cut and not think anything of it. problem is it didnt seem to stop even into summer.. its almost like when i hit boost my car gets all laggy and jumpy. its like it jumps in and out of boost then finally bursts into boost and im gone. i figure it may be the turbo seals since when i switched to a turbolife FMIC over a year ago there was aloooooot of oil in the SMIC pipes and intake pipe. does anyone know what my problem may be?

Could be a boost leak. Check your pipes/couplers, pcv valve, and vac lines. Also are you on a flashed or unflashed msp ecu? The lag or hesitation you feel is a problem most of us experience with boosted protege, you might want to look into a piggyback tuning solution such as the ssafc.

Tighten all couplers even if they seem tight. Check all vaccum lines.. Twice over everything. Maybe clean egr (there's a how to). Um Incan clean maf.. Then after that. Check couplers and clamps again!

new discovery. i checked over everything and the manual boost control seemed to be set up all weird. so i removed all the hoses and reversed a bunch of things to hook it up correctly and now the jumping during boost seems to be gone but i cant boost past 5 or 6 psi no matter how high i turn the boost. could this just be a faulty boost control??

the thing i find weird tho is the boost control was always hooked up the other way and the boost used to be just fine and not laggy... and even when i tried to hook it back up the way i originally found it, it still wouldnt go above 5-6 psi and it wasnt lagging. so its almost like since i started cranking the boost conrol the lagging stopped but now i cant boost 10psi.

if you dont have a boost gauge, get one, and remove the MBC and see if the problem goes away. theres no point in guessing if youre actually going in-and-out of boost without a gauge to verify

i do have a boost guage. and it read a solid 10psi even when the boost was jumping. it was like the turbo was giving the right amount of boost it just wasnt getting to the engine or something. it would jolt in and out of boost (all the while holding at 10psi on the guage) and then it was like finally it would just take off and stop jolting till i hit the next gear. and it starts all over again.

I have the same problem but on stock boost. I am looking for boost leak right now, I'm afraid its the stock manifold hopefully if it is JB weld will fix it.

if the boost gauge reads ten psi, then the engine is getting ten psi. the pressure to drive the gauge is on the intake manifold and is the same pressure going into the combustion chamber. it sounds like you have the stock tune and stock timing map. or your bov/bpv is leaking. mine was, and had similar symptoms.

i am talking to op. but im sure if your not tuned that could be part of your problem as well. these cars stock tune and timing map isn't the greatest, it sucks actually, especially unflashed ecus.

make a pressure tester, they cost like 10 bucks, all the stuff is available at lowes or home depot. makes it ALOT easier to pin point the small leaks. not sure if that will work for the exhaust mani though.. but i was able to pin point all my leaks within 5 minutes. extremely helpful. eliminating problems will get you closer to the solution and thats a cheap place to start.

Any cels?

I had this same problem and it ended up being primary 02 and a tune up.

Im sure it was just the O2 but a tune up never hurts...

alight, i just wanted to make sure i was alright, mine is 20-21 at idle and 24 at coasting. Unless my AC is on then its all screwed up

how can it be the tune tho? everything was working pefect for about half a year and i didnt change a thing then all of a suffen this started happening
