I am wondering if anyone has swapped the stock 55 watt H3 bulbs for a 110 or 130 watt without heat or voltage draw issues.

Don't talk HID please...this is a straight forward: Have you swapped in a standard, higher watt H3?

What Wattage?

How long running them?..... with no electrical issues or heat issues?

ALSO...anyone do this while using fog lamp tint? (yellow)

I think the highest wattage you could go on stock wiring is 65w and then after that you would need to upgrade to a wiring harness.

I've done the tint already....almost a year ago, no issues at all at 55 Watts.

What I'm looking for is "I've done it" or "am doing" etc. I appreciate the input but what I need is experience....IS anyone running 110's or better with no problems?

I swapped 110's for 55's in my SER years ago and had no issues.

not sure if you want to run high wattage in maine. i had 100w yellow bulbs in my ES fogs one year. looked awesome. however, durring the winter, we got a big snow storm. i happened to drive through a snow drift, and the thermal shock from the hot fog light being driven through the cold snow cracked the lens.

i wouldn't run anything higher than stock wattage with a halogen bulb. i would upgrade to a HID conversion before i run another set of high wattage bulbs in the fogs again.

Thanks for that njaremka, I hadn't really thought of that. I must say though, 100watt bulbs are $8 and HID kits are well, a LOT more than that. I have a yellow laminate over my fogs (MADE for it) and because it is tinted, it actually cuts the brightness by about 15%. I think I'm gonna try the 100's as they only draw 7 or so amps vs about 4 for a 55w.

its not the amps, its the heat. 100w bulbs put out almost twice as much heat at 55w bulbs. i wouldnt be surprised if you toast your overlays.

Good point. I'm going to call Rvinyl and find out what temp their product is rated to. Then I'll measure the surface temp of my fogs @ 55 watts with a laser temperature gun and then double that for approximate 100 watt heat output.

Make sense?
