water wetter.......who has it? does it help?

just wanna see who here uses watter wetter.
did u guys see any gains.....
i've talked to a mazda engeneer yesterday about our bad ECU, he told me that ONE of the reasons it acts the way it does is because of the coolant temps.

i asked if we would benefit from watter wetter, he said yes.

well i wanna see if any of u have benefited, or if it was a wasted of time and money.

i have used the redline water wetter but didn't see any change I am thinking I will add more water and less coolant next time... Since it really doesn't snow or get real cold here in houston.

i use it.. im not sure of any temp drops.. my temp is always a little below half. For 7$ cant go wrong.

I had to order mine, but i notice pepboys carries it. save you some shipping cost.

I use the Redline Water wetter. Just pour one bottle in your radiator and your all set. I got mine here locally for $10. For that price it's worth a shot. I noticed it helped me a little bit during our 100 degree summers but anything really noticable will be hard to tell during the winter months. Good Luck!

I think a better Idea would be to replace the thermostat with one that opens at a lower temperature. This will help keep the engine cooler. Add water wetter with this, and you'll notice a slight difference, more than with just water wetter.

yeah I use it. you will notice your needle drop a few notches. as for under the hood temps, dont know. it says it works better with about 2/3 water, 1/3 coolant. so I drained my radiator a little, out in the WW, then topped it off with water. seems to work..

If the mazda engineer wanted to lower underhood temps, he could have easily just put in a lower temperature thermostat. Is there a reason why we might not want to do this? Bad fuel economy perhaps?

For cars, mixing per the directions is best and you WON'T experience world record breaking changes but 2-8 degrees is normal when using with any coolant in it, sometimes more. On the bikes we run straight water plus WW and get over 10 degrees off normal 50/50 mix. I laughed when I read this thread because it never crossed my mind to use it in my cars.

Oh and I nearly forgot, the destructions say: " 1 ounce (3 to 4 capfuls) per quart OR 1 bottle per automotive cooling system of 12-20 quarts. "

ditto....I've always used it my bikes cuz I do track days.....never thought of putting it in a car. They make you use it because it doesn't turn into an oil slick on the track if you blow like anti-freeze does.....as far as temps my bike maybe dropped 2-3 degrees on average and that's it.......I wouldn't bother if your goal is lower temp.....probably won't make a big diff.

the best all around coolant is 100% water. but this would eat your engine from the inside out. so a light anti-freeze water mix is acceptable to quash the rusting. or you could use water wetter. the temp differences would be negligable. get the lower temp thermostat for true temp changes

For all you guys in warm climates, you could safely run straight water and Water Wetter. Northern climates obviously need antifreeze which Water Wetter is not.

To clarify and detail what I posted in my original post. I meant to say in my original post after rereading it, is that I personally in a 2-stroke Honda RS250 got 10 degrees running Water Wetter and straight water. In my current track bike I got only 2-5 degrees of change dependent on track temps. I agree that the difference is minimal and nothing that you pour into a vehicle will have the results of mechanical changes. But that being said I still poured a bottle in my MSP tonight to see what happens.

I'm digging up a slightly old thread, but I thought I'd clarify this post. The Water Wetter has a graph on the back that shows the dyno test results of different combos...

50% antifreeze/50% water-----------228 degrees
50% antifreeze/50% water + WW-----220 degrees
water only---------------------------220 degrees
water + WW-------------------------202 degrees

I don't know much about thermostats, but that definitely isn't a negligable difference.
