Where is the water pump located on the 2007. I have a leak underneath the car and I checked all of the hoses and the radiator. I had someone underneath the car and they told me the hoses were fine and that it was from under the alternator. I took it in to the dealer to have this looked at. If it is the water pump how many days will it take them to fix it. All input would be greatly appreciated.

From looking at my repair manual schematics (which is not of good quality), it seems is the upper front of the pulleys in the belt area. The problem with the design on this engine is that the whole engine has to be removed for the WP change-at least that is what the manual says. Pretty involved work. I would guess the dealer has some experience doing it and could probably do it in a day or two.
Poor design if you ask me, b/c water-pumps are considered maintenance items. I didn't realize this before buying the car. I try to stay away from timing belts, but this WP is worse than that.

Thanks for the response. I am now wondering if they won't screw anything up while having the engine out of the car. This really scares me as a lot of stuff has to be disconnected. I hope that they are experienced with this type of repair. I really can not have anything else go wrong with this vehicle. It only has 66k on the clock and I have had all my service done at the dealer. Now I am going to hope for a good outcome with this repair. I hope that they don't take any shortcuts.
I looked in the 2012 Workshop manual. It too indicated engine and transaxle removal is necessary to change the water pump. I am disappointed to find this out. On the other hand, the water pump is driven by the timing chain and therefore totally enclosed in the engine front cover (timing chain cover). I doubt you would see an external leak if the water pump leaked. I would think the coolant would enter the oil system (and create associated problems!). I have never been inside this type of engine before so this post is strictly from book learning!
Just got a call back from the service guy at mazda. He told me that it was indeed the water pump. The warranty company is sending someone over to verify that this is the case. I am really hoping for a good outcome with this. I was looking at pictures of the water pump at other websites. It is indeed driven by the timing chain, but it looks like part of it is bolted to the block and there is a part that sticks out of the engine. I might be wrong about that. If the front engine cover leaked as well then i guess that is the cause. I hope to find out tomorrow what is the outcome because this repair is over a thousand dollars.
I was wondering that too. I am very worried about them screwing something up in the process of either removal or re-installation of the engine. Even though this is the mazda dealer i am wondering how many of these have they done or if they have done this repair at all previously. I will call today to find out what is the status of my car.
Update, i was told that the repair was approved by the warranty company. So he said that he put an order for the parts and would update me on tuesday. He also told me that they have done this repair before that it wasn't something that they haven't seen. So now i am wondering how many of these has this dealership done.
I was told today that they are looking at friday for this to get done. What should i look for when i get the car back. I am hoping that they don't screw anything up in the process. I am really keeping my fingers crossed. If anyone has any ideas of what i should check please feel free to comment.
Question. I just got a call at about 1:15 today saying that my car was ready. They supposedly started this repair yesterday morning. Is it possible that they were able to finish the water pump replacement already. I was hoping that helbigtw can tell me what are the labor hours for this repair. I am picking the car up tomorrow morning and hoping that they didn't mess anything up.
