Water Injection Results... dayum!

Ok, I promise pics tonight! I have a big test, but as soon as its done, the camera I coming out.

The install was super easy- it consisted of: 1. Install nipple on windshield washer tank 2. Mount Pump inside engine bay 3. Mount Nozzle inside intake track 4. Connect All of those with the supplied hose 5. Wire it up!

That is the basic version of the install, but to get at the washer tank, you have to get under the car and remove some plastic panels, and to mount the nozzle you have to remove the intake pipe ic-tb, which could take some time as well.

One note- the kit comes with a no-good fitting for the washer fluid tank install. I went to lowe's and picked one up for like 50 cents though. The one included is too big to work with the hose included in the kit, and even if you were to adapt the hose, you would need to drill a hole for a 1/4 inch pipe fitting (big). So I bought a 1/8 fitting (small) and everybody was happy.

The nozzle uses the tiniest little pin hole. I tested the system before installing it- it sprays a wide cone pattern of super fine mist. Very refreshing after installing in the sun for an hour or two!

Maybe I'll get some pics during a study break today...

From the pics it looks pretty simple. I haven't done any research so I won't be slapping this on my car as of right now, but it's def. something worth checking out.

So is this something I could use daily to drive my speed @ like 10 psi instead of getting a larger IC to cool the charge down, or will the richness of an unflashed speed and the water injection destroy my motor? (I would be running with hardpipes and exhaust btw)

haha i have that same pump....in the back of my pest control truck on the spray tank. The one we use is made by surflow or some s*** like that. Looks identical to the one you have.

Great to see you got it workin..Would like to see it in person!

Let us know when you come back to Jersey

That is what I am using it for. You don't have to worry about richness and water injection- if you read that report that was posted above, it just shows that richening the fuel mixture to cool engine isn't optimal when you can use water, but it didnt say anything about negative side effects of running rich and running water(or alc/meth)- just less power than if you run stoich with water.

At the same time, though, a better intercooler couldn't hurt, but I am set to prove that this setup will show gains close enough to a better intercooler that you can spend the extra 600-1000 bucks on other parts. I'll be hitting the track in fewer than 24 hours, and the dyno sometime in the near future. I will do some baseline runs, like 9 psi w/o spraying and then 9 psi with spraying. Then I will do a fun 15 psi run.

I really need a downpipe now, though, because the stock exhaust is really preventing the car from holding higher boost.

MikeBlueP5: You probably do have the same pump. This pump was chosen because of it's ability to handle methanol and other harsh chemicals, as I'm sure you deal with all the time. This pump seems to be the most popular pump in water/alcohol/methanol injection, and it seems to have been that way for quite some time.

no..... water does not burn, therefore slowing down combustion and gas burns

Have any of you guys tried injecting washer fluid? Some companies that make water injection systems recommend it. I'd just like to hear if you guys have had luck with it...

Hmm. If it really is a single, pin-hole mister I hope you have a high quality filter and/or are using distilled water. That would suck if a few weeks down the road you get it clogged with minerals. Water misters do all the time...
What manifold pressures can the mister work up to before it can no longer atomize properly?

Doesn't fuel injected into the intake piping have similar results?

Also, fuel is like 6 times less efficient at removing heat than water is.

Anyway, here are the track times (don't laugh):

Stock (6.9 psi, no injection): 16.1
9 psi, injected: 15.3
9 psi, no injeciton: 15.6
15 psi, injected: 15.1

Apparently, my SOTP indicator is broken, because this is way slower than my firebird. But, I checked out why I was going so slow- my turbo peaks at whatever boost I set at around 4000 rpm, but then drop back down to like 6.5 psi at about 4500 rpm. Sooooo, the kick that I feel at 4000 is probably faster than my firebird, but it doesn't last.

Basically I am a bad driver in this car, and the boost didnt hold. After I get a downpipe, I will go back to the track and hopefully have some real numbers.

These numbers suck, but they did prove that the mods did help alot. Even though it says 15 psi, it was only 15 psi for like a few hundreths of a second, so it doesn't matter.

I was so embarrassed at the track. But, water injection certainly helped. Time for an exhaust.

I have the slips if you need proof, but I didn't scan them because nobody is going to call bulls*** on a 15 second run. God, I suck at front wheel drive! My 60' times were like 2.45. I think a grandma passed me on her walker in the 60 foot.

Bad news: I did get a little detonation (or fuel cut or something) on one run. I screwed with the boost controller and it hit 17 psi before it limited it, and the engine bucked real hard in a bad way

God, I'm embarrased. Sorry to get everybody's hopes up. Water injection was still great, but I wish I could have pulled some decent times to back up the feeling that I get when 15 psi kicks in.

Can't blame someone for trying new things. Don't feel too bad about your 60' times, my best 60' time is a 2.18 and that wasn't even with the drag radials.
