Water Injection Results... pics here!

I just finished installing my water/alcohol injection kit from http://www.aquastealth.com/, and it was a really straightforward, simple install. All of the parts in the kit are very high quality, and plenty of hose and wire are included.

Now, for the fun part: the speed! I ran a full 14.7 psi (1 Bar on the EBC), and the engine purred like a cat. No hesitation, coughing, knocking, or anything. And DAMN! This car is definitely faster than my 13.9 second v6 Firebird! I spun in first after the boost kicked in, and spun all the way through second. I am going to try to hit the track and the dyno in the coming weeks, but for now, you'll just have to take my word for the fact that it is so fast. I raced my friend who has a Spec-V, and we always ran about the same when I was boosting 9 psi. Now that I am running 14, I left him in the dust!!!

I don't plan on running 14 very often at all, because it just doesn't feel right to go that fast all the time. I need to get used to it. I think I'll be running 10-11 psi most of the time. I am so pumped right now. I am running a 50/50 mix of water/denatured alchohol, which gives me the equivalent of 109 octane.

You have to note- I still have stock exhaust and everything, so the boost doesnt hold. It hits 1 bar at about 4000 rpms, but drops off towards the higher rpms. This is probably better for it anyway. The car bogs a little bit when the water kicks in, because I haven't had time to tune it, but I am super pleased with all of my results.

But, I need to stress- no detonation! (at least that I could feel/hear/see). It also doesn't seem like there is any spark retard, but I would need a scan tool to find that out for sure.

I will post times, and dyno results in the near future.

Excuse the pics! I haven't finished running wire loom yet. I also couldn't take a pic of the water tank because I don't feel like going under the car and removing the panels again!

Nice. Glad you did the test platform before me so I can ask you a few questions. What psi Switch did you use? It didn't say on the site, but did the kit come with an on/off switch for the pump so you can use the water injection when you want? It wouldn't be hard for me to wire a switch in if it didn't, but it would be nice if it came with one. Lastly, did you use your winshield washer resevoir? Good luck with your dyno, I think you will be able to more safely push the car to the limit with a system like this. I will be getting one after I upgrade the SMIC.

damn... i couldn't get mine done fastAr than you! oh well. i'm planning to do 15psi. so i think it will hold. i will be using 100% denatured alch. i'm actually waiting for a J&S to come in. i'm gonna be pushing the turbo to the edge of efficiency island. should be good. do you have any upgraded piping or a frontmount?

This is just a quick reply (im about to go to dinner):

I got the 4-15 psi on switch, but i've pretty much just been using it at 4-5 psi. The kit doesn't come with an arming switch, but the guy is pretty cool, so I bet he would throw one in for next to nothing if you asked.

I did use the washer reservoir- it is super easy to access after removing the plastic "floor" of the engine bay underneath it (four bolts holding it in).

Track times will be posted Friday night, assuming it doesn't rain.

Time to eat!

Sounds good :) You gotta come out to our meets, I need to see this setup :):)

My profile kinda lies. *Technically* I live in New Jersey, but I go to Notre Dame out in Indiana. Sooooooo, I won't be in the Jerz until October. Let me tell ya, I'm not happy about that, but life goes on. But, I would love to swing by a meet when I'm in town.

I don't have any upgraded piping or a front mount. Thats kinda why I did the water injection- to see if I could realize the gains of the fmic without getting the fmic. We'll see once I hit the track and the dyno.

About the alcohol- I have already gone through an entire gallon of my mix today, and I will probably use the the rest of it tommorrow. I am going to test using just water, because it would be nice to only have to fill up at the hose every night when I pull in instead of putting up another 5 bucks for alcohol. I think I am just going to run the alcohol when I turn the boost way up- I'll probably stick with water if I'm running below like 12 psi or something. Then again, I am a friggen leadfoot today because I have never experienced anything as fun as this, so maybe it will get cheaper once I calm down...

hmmm subscribing to this one i have a fmic but this sounds like a great upgrade.

What does it have for an injector how fine is the mist?
as far as just water you should be fine i would just filter it first with like a brita or something just so the stuff doesn't build up and plug the injector.

sounds great.... cant wait for the pics and track/dyno results.....

What's involved with the install? The website doesn't really explain the process.

There's group buy rates on the site, 4 or more orders gets the kit for $200.

I was looking at that GB rate too...

For those of you reading this thread...and are now contemplating this.... DO YOUR research first.... Alcohol and/or Water Injection is not a solution to all your problems. Proper Fuel delivery is still needed...

If you just do a google search there are tons of informational threads on this subject, and a few from more credible sources. I spent a lot of time reasearching and the common opinion seemed to be that this prolonged engine life and made it much safer to push the limits. Something like this would allow you greater flexibility while tuning, but to get max gains it would be wise to read up on the subject. There is a forum with many different users:

http://www.turboice.net/phpBB2/

Also, look to the scientific facts of the cooling effects on your cylinders and so forth. A kit on a car with upgraded SMIC or FMIC and exhaust boosting 10-14 psi should see great gains and increased safety with these kits or some like them. Aqamist also offers higher quality (and more expensive) kits.

http://waterinjection.info/documents/turbowhitepaper/waterinjection.htm

There was a link to this on the forum I posted, but this is the best theory tutorial on water injection out there. It is not too hard to understand for those not familiar with basic chemistry and physics. Close attention should be paid to the negative effect of running this with rich air/fuel mixtures. Our car runs rich as a very ineffective and inefficient way of being safe. This system should be run in conjuction with engine management, fuel management, or a Joep FPR if you are hurting for cash. I am considering running an variable aquamist system along with an agressively tuned map on the MPI tuner to see what results can be achieved. Of course the only thing holding me back is finances and priorities, so it's going to take me a while to get everything into place. Maybe one of the guys out there with bottomless pockets or a sponsor would be willing to try this along with agressively tuned engine management??
