Anyone else having this issue? I got water in my spare well and the 2 side pockets of my tunk. Dont know exactly where its coming from, but there is a vent on the D/S of the trunk, down in the little side pocket. Anyways, anyone else with this issue? I want to find the issue before I take it to the stealership.

EDIT: Pics posted. The vent on the side is whre I suspect the water coming in, and based on the wet spot on my spare cover, its washing over from there.

i have it. it never leaked until i replaced the taillight, so i think that maybe where my problem is. for the time being, i just pulled out one of the plugs in the bottom of the spare tire well until i get time to take it all apart again and fix it properly.

I had the same issue with my MSP. After lond periods of rain you can actually feel water underneath the driver floormat. So I took it to the dealer and they did something with the rear bumper, and that helped. I think they fixed the seals or somethig like that.

ok as we speak i have 3 huge icecubes in my trunk, the two sides and spare compartment totally filled with water and froze in my trunk, how does it get in?

hmmm... interesting... my back end of my car seams to sit lower that usual and i might have to check the water issue out...
SUBbED

I checked my seal (put powder on it then closed the trunk to make sure it sat snug) and my seal is fine. Im thinking its that damn vent it is coming in at.

I had this same issue awhile ago, I vacuumed the water out with a shop vac and cleaned up as best I could. It hasn't happened since then, to my knowledge, it is a strange occurence

It happens to me all the time. I checked my friends mp3 and his does it too. It ******* sucks and rusts up the jack and whatever metal is under there! I think it might be coming from the tail light housing holes b/c the right side of the trunk doesnt have a vent. I think the solution is to get some foam washer padding things for the taillight holes where it bolts to the car.

Im gonna have someond sit in the trunk as I spray the back of the car with water this week. :D Hopefully we will find this culprit and get a fix for it.

Thanks Oldzoomer +rep bro. I will be checking to see if its the "1" way vent that is letting water in, and the tails. I just want it FIXED cause I changed my mind for the umpteenth time and plan to keep my car and give it to my boy for his 16th (got 5 more years, but he is already saving for insurance)

I want the car as near mint (except for my mods) as possible for him. :D

I have the same thing - when I was working in my trunk (2003 Protege ES) I found a puddle on the driver's side by that vent. Now I'll have to keep an eye on it. Oh, and I'll have to read that other thread posted by oldzoomer (maybe I should've done that before posting)

I just discovered this in my MP3 today on the d/s, but nothing in the spare tire and p/s. My first guess was that vent since the rubber flaps are not sealing properly.

No more leaky trunk!!!!

I had the same problem the trunk leaking about 5 gallons in there one day!! My car didn't come with a jack when i bought it so if I got no jack then I dont need a spare tire either! lol free up some weight, add 1 hp lol not. Well anyways i removed all the rubber drain plugs on both side and the tire area so water will drain out. also i just installed Air ride on my car so i can slam it to the ground and I got the hoses running out the tire compartment hole so no water can stay in there.

our '99 es leaks because we got sandwiched in an accident a few years ago. the people who repaired it did a crap job; however, someone was too lazy to take further action (i think it wasted more time and money finding all this water damage)

anyways, i climbed into the trunk while someone hosed down the trunk area. spotted several entry points basically far left and right creases of the trunk where the rubber seals are. we put this rubber like sealant thing all around the hinges and made sure the rubber seals were very secure. there has not been a leak since; unfortunately, we lost a jack, jumper cables, spare tire, ruined the sub boxes and wires, and the ground point in the car. we had to use those water vacums to get the water out of the entire spare tire compartment. the water was leveled to the top of the spare tire compartment (we were having a nasty rain spell and the car was parked outside the entire time). some of the water spread to the back half of the car so part of the back rug had rust stains and started smelling nasty. i had to sand down under the rear seats, spare tire compartment, trash everything in the spare tire compartment and jack. at least we finally got sun to dry the car out to the point where i could put the sealant and sand the rusted metal parts of the car down. good luck finding your leak. you better take care of the problem fast before you find yourself doing this kind of repair as well. peace out.

Take it to the dealer. I did, and they fixed it for me. They told me it was the seal between the chassi and the bumper.
