Was anyone gonna buy a 3, not ms3?

I guess what I am trying to ask is if the ms3 never came out would they have still gotten the 3. Or if the performance of the car wasn't as good would they have still bought it? I personally would have still got a 3 regardless of how fast it is, but I had my eye on the ms3 since i first saw it at mazfest in 06. I for one don't have much to prove to anybody or get "street cred" and "respect" (as one of my friends put it), I just wanted a nice car with some power. If someone buys this car cause they want to be faster than other cars, did they buy it for the wrong reason.

Oh and if this is a worthless topic sorry for wasting your time...

I really like the standard 3 and when I first saw the Speed i did not like the wing at all or the rims at all. Now when I saw the HP of the car I was like wow. Also the reg 3 is 4-5 grand less and thats alot of money.

Are you sure thats the wrong reason. The performance features and potential of this vehicle are absolutely why I purchased this car. The excellent design and style, pointed engineering are appreciated bonuses to be sure. Oh yeah and sometimes I allow my 4 children to ride with me.

I was in the market for a college-budget "sports car." I read all the reviews comparing the MS3 to the GTI, Civic SI, WRX, V6 Camry, and the other competitors. I narrowed it down to a '07 WRX or '07 MS3. I got to test drive the MS3 but the dealers around me cleared out all of the '07 WRX's to make room for the new ones. So I bought the MS3.

Me. I have both, actually. I wanted a vehicle I was comfortable in which is hard to find given my size. It needed to handle well and be practical, and it needed to be something other than slow. The Mazda3 fit everything except power, but in the price range I could swing I wasn't going to find any better, so I got one.

Then the Mazdaspeed3 came out, I got a full time (and good paying) job and I found myself needing a second vehicle. I already loved the base platform, and the extra 100 horses sealed the deal. I tested the WRX, the GTI, and the SIR, but nothing had the same power, handling, and practicality in the same package. To top it off, I already felt comfortable in the Mazda3. Sold!

I was the exact same way. Except I was really digging the Gti as my last car was a mk4 and was one of my favorite cars. Basically i visited 3 vw dealers in Dallas and really fell in love with the Fahrenheit gli... Except they only offered them in dsg, and I'm a fan of the clutch. But i figured with the launch control I could get over that, I was about to buy one, but one dealer ship was closed, one didn't send anyone out to talk to me and one basically gave me the run-round and kept asking me if I was serious ect, really getting on my nerves. In their defense I was in jeans t-shirt and ball cap, but that's what I wear so eh.

After calming down I bit, I remembered the mazda 3 2.3 I drove in Zoom Zoom live, it was a fun car, I also remembered the awesomeness of the rx-8 but had a hard time convincing the wife it was a 4-door. Anyway we drove down the street to a mazda dealer, I saw the mazdaspeed and remembered a few articles I had read comparing it to the Gti, and what I had read on mk4 forums. So the next week we bought one and drove it off the lot. If it wasn't for VW snubbary (which unfortunately translates to some of the drivers) and the impression the mazda3 2.3 made on me I doubt I would have looked at the MS3.

What's funny though is after we bought it I kept seeing countless magazines and articles touting it and realized how perfect of a fit it is.

I wouldn't mess with I regular 3. I would rather get a civic than a 3.

Completely agreed. The regular 3's were nice when they first came out. Hell, they're still nice. But, would I have ever bought one? Hell no.
The subtle changes with the speed just make all the difference.

My buddies: "Look, same car as you!" (pointing at a regular 3)
Me: "No! It's ******* not!"

lol

I would have bought a new SRT-4 or new STi if I didnt buy an MS3. I wanted the power this time around with my beater.

I would have neve even looked at Mazda if it wasnt for the MS3. I would have bought a 08 WRX instead or a 07 LGT.

One of the people i know I think got the car to impress people. And like i said in my first post he wants street cred and respect. For example, he is talking about starting a car/race club but only letting fast cars in it. I asked him about letting cars that were nice or just friend a in and he said no cause he wants to have respect on the streets. By his own standard he wouldn't be able to join the crew with his old car, a type s. I guess it kind of bothers me that he changed just with the type of car he has.

Wife and I went to test drive the 3 and speed3 - as soon as she sat in the ms3 it was a done deal. Fine be me :)

Don't worry about what people whose self value is relate to their possessions think, there will always be someone with a nicer/newer/more powerful car.

With all due respect, the MS3 isn't all that fast, especially compared to all the other stuff out there

I think it has to do with the fact its the fastest car he has driven. Before the ms3, the type s was the fastest car on the streets. haha

Thinking like thats dangerous, lol. Means he's gonna race anything with a spoiler on it

I almost bought the orange GTi as well but got the MS3 because it's faster and several thousand cheaper. I have seen a couple of those GTIs around (even regular ones) and I still LOVE the way they look.

That is a hot car. If the performance was on par with the MS3 with a similar price, damn, that would have been a really hard thing to decide on. I probably would have gone with the GTi since that was my last car too.

EDIT: never even considered the regular 3 even once.

You need K/N drop in air filter. Seriously, increased performance less fuel consumption and street cred not needed. Only you will know you are one up on all those "other 3's".

My wife had a 3 hatch before I got my MS3. I liked her car. It had a little different feel with its lighter weight.
