sup all.

so I know this is prob on the forum a million times, just wanted to ask on my own. Currently, I only have a CAI installed (not the mazdaspeed one). Does that void my warranty? should I just get the MazdaSpeed one to replace the one I have now (Fujita). Sorry, I amsure its a repeat. Just want some input.

Real quick answer: Depends on your dealer.

If you are going in for a simple oil change, chances are, the dealer wont screw you.

If you go in with any sort of problem (CEL, sputtering, smoking, etc) they will most likely b*tch at you, and make you take the car home, put the stocker on, then come back.

If you go to the dealer with a blown engine, they will surely screw you over for sure.

Now, I can not make guarantees as I do not know your dealer, but that is my opinion. My dealer didnt care about my CAI (Fugita) and test pipe when the did my oil change. After talking to the service manager, he was real cool, just basically told me as long as they dont have to "diagnose" anything, then the mods are fine.

But, from what others around here have been saying, the Regional Service Mangers are dicks, and will find any reason to void the warranty. Until you know the dealer, I suggest keep the mods simple and return to stock.

^^^^ is right. If I were you I wouldnt take any chances. Just replace the stock airbox. Its super easy . . . took me (1st time under hood) 30 minutes. Only takes that long because of 2 nuts that are hard to screw in / out (holding res box in). I know its annoying but its better then wasting 300 bucks on a mazdaspeed intake.

Also Mazdaspeed discontinued their intakes. In order for you to be warrantied a certified dealer must install your intake. I tried to buy one early this year and about 4 dealers told me the same thing.

That leaves you with 3 options: take a chance (you should be ok) or replace stock airbox . . . or get ur oil changes somewhere else.

to be honest tho, I am not sure how to put it back to stock with the resonator and stuff. I think I still have all the stuff

Do a search or write another post about instructions for CAI install. I know somewhere on these forums there is a post with step by step instructions with pictures.

You could also see if anyone in the mazdas247 community is near you. . . im sure someone will be willing to help. Or you could find a car shop that should be able to help you without making you pay too much and let you watch so you can learn.

If I were you I would search for the instructions here on the forums.

Overview of install just so you can see how easy it is:

There are 2 black boxes. One is the air box the other is the res box. Basically all you do is take out those 2 boxes. The 1st one just unsnaps with some clips. The one underneath (res box) has 3 screws holding it. This is the only hard part. You have to jack your car up, take off drivers side wheel, remove plastic splash guard, and stick a wrench up there to take off those screws. Then remove the box and replace it with the cold air intake. All you do is stick it in, attatch the clamps to hold it replace wheel and all, replug battery.

Thats it (very brief rundown i forgot a few minor plugs that you have to take off). The instructions should take you through it very easily step by step. As I said it was my 1st mod and my 1st time under the hood of a car and it took me like 30 minutes. Good way to start learning about your car.

Good Luck

I'll chime in about this real quick. I had this discussion with my dealer today when I picked my car up.

Basically, when it comes to modding your car, you need to decide how far you want to go and how responsible you want to be about potential failure. I asked about their thoughts on the intake/bpv/exhaust and they told me that those are mild and wouldn't pose a problem for minor stuff. If you blow a motor, tow it home, return it to stock, then bring it in. Don't give the dealer any opportunity to screw you over.

As for the intake, they prefer the MS CAI, but they also shouldn't give you too much trouble for any intake, unless you come in and your MAF is shot or you hydrolocked your motor. The hardest part of the install is actually removing the lower portion of the resonator box, especially if you have big hands. Everything else can be taken out relatively quickly and easily.
