Warranty Question....

My friend took in his 03.5 MSP because his clutch was slipping. Mazda said that if theres any signs of hot spots on the flywheel he will have to pay for everything. They claimed that the car was abused or missused, something like that. The clutch slips when boosting on hot days. All the car has is a filter.

What I dont understand is, if a clutch slips as much as his has been wouldnt that cause hot spots?? It would slip when boosting in 3rd and up. Its slips at around 3grand and then catch at 5500rpms.
A regular bad driver could cause small hot spots also by reving too high when taking off and switching between gears. How would they prove that the car was not drivin to "their" needs??

I dont get why Mazda would sell a high performance car and not expect the car to be beat on some. My friend even said before he bought the car the sales men took him for a ride. The car didnt have over 200miles and the sales men took it up to 110mph. Wouldnt that ruin the clutch break in??

Mazdaspeed is not a high performance car!!! It's a suped up econobox...

Ok, "Higher Performing Protege Than A Stock One" hahaha

mine started slipping too around 3k rpm and at stock boost...some mods....9000km on the car......not happy bout it....

My friends got 10,000 miles on his. What did Mazda do about it??

At one time my friend did have a boost controller boosting around 10psi. The clutch held fine. Then one day he boosted and it slipped pretty bad.

im not saying it doesnt suck . but you can get a better aftermarket clutch for less then 400$ might last 6k then . mines got almost 20k on it and its fine i dont nurse it either .
i think your just super hard on it

My friend doesnt drive any harder than a normal person would when boosting.
He usually doesnt beat on the car since gas isnt cheap.

Goes through the gears smooth and pulls his foot off the clutch fast.

No they fully expect you to beat on it some. That's why they upped the warranty to 4 years / 50k miles .... because they knew they could get out of honoring any warranty work anyway. I don't know why all companies just don't offer a 100 year, million mile warranty really...considering you're FORCED to buy it and they're never forced to honor it.

The main reason why I think that there on his ass about this is because hes young. When he went in for an oil change his tires were a little bald, I had already rotated them for him but Mazda went crazy and said that he does burnouts all the time. He doesnt do burnouts at all, I just think that Mazda is use to the wear of Z rated tires.

He told me when he brought in the car today and he told them the problem they brought up burnouts again. I wish that I went with him when he droped it off. I would have had some fun (lol2)

Tomorrow its suppose to be taken apart. I want to see this flywheel. The thing thats really pissin me off is that Mazda said if there is ONE hotspot that its not under warranty. Cant 1one hotspot be made with normal driving?? Keep in mind that the car has 10,000miles.

Im just getting all worked up on this and its not even my car. I hate new cars, they dont make them like they use too. I havent had one real problem with my Mx6 and its an 89!!!

I got my crappy clutch replaced at 14,000.

Well my friend called me a little while ago.

I guess his mom must have called them and bitched or something?? They know people there also. There going to replace it under warranty. They said that hotspots were all over the flywheel, not to mention the clutch was cracked??

I'm at 25k on my stock clutch. Still hasnt slipped yet! However I will be ready to buy the ACT as soon as mine goes

I have almost 33k on my stock clutch, and I just replaced my stock tires yesterday and they still had tread on them. I will admit they are mostly highway miles, but I don't drive like a grandma either . My dealership has commented a few times at how suprised they are that my tires and other things have lasted that long, and they know I take care of my car.

I'm guessing a hot spot is where the metal of the flywheel is discolored due to heat, but I could be wrong on that one. Somebody who knows for sure please reply to either confirm or deny. As far as the clutch slipping, that's when even though the clutch is fully engaged, it can't generate enough friction between it and the flywheel to spin the rest of the drivetrain (the friction disc on the clutch spins at a different rate than the flywheel).

And it's not retarded, just currently uninformed :)
