I went over to my friends house to use his obd II equipment b/c i threw a CEL on the way home from work tonight... Well i took off my Heat shield yesterday and all is well.... But when i found out what the CEL was for I BECAME PISSED!!! It was a High IAT... well we turned on the water temp meter and the IAT meter.... my fans wont turn on until 210 degrees and before they used to turn on at 176.... my IAT was 136 degrees:eek:  .. if i would have known the AEM intake would bring in that hot of air on a 65 degree day i WOULD HAVE NEVER BOUGHT IT!!!! I am emailing AEM tonight telling them about their product... and i will fully expect a partial or FULL refund for the CRAP they sold me..... Well im in the market for a CAI so if anyone is selling a Used or new CAI i will most definitely buy it... Preferebly the MHP CAI... so i am warning all of you guys with the AEM or the ones who are thinking of getting the AEM ... dont get it or try to get a refund because it pulls in too hot of air....

Chris
Extremely MAD  about the new PROBLEMS MY CAR HAS BEEN HAVING

I don't know what to tell you. I don't think that the MHP is going to be a better intake than the AEM, but that's just MHO.

As for the temps, I would ask AEM about it, I'm sure they have some way of helping you out, and you shouldn't have to return the intake. The sensor also might be damaged.

Just some things to think about.

well the temp sensor is definitely working well b/c my friend also has a laser temp meter and it was almost exact of what the sensor was reading.... so that isnt the problem...

Well, it was worth a shot...

what do you expect? You have a short ram intake of course it will suck hot air. Buy the Injen or make one like i did using a K&N drop in filter and a 2" radiator hose hook up to the stock air box. It works very well and it costs a lot less than the Injen CAI and looks stock also.

well i expected it to pull hot air but not at 130 degrees... and start to throw codes.. i would expect it to be within the limits of the computer and the engine...

that's exactly why racing beat did not develop an intake for the MP3. They were going to come up with a true CAI, but did not have enough time. Return that junk!

Well, I guess this proves us CAI intake guys right. I remember telling everyone that the AEM will suck in hot air since it pulls air from where it does. I recommend the MHP or Injen. If you can find one, get the MHP. You'll get more WOW points from people when they see the Carbon Fiber.

well im not totally bashing AEM for its product b/c the iat temps were pretty low with any temp below 60 degrees... so all you canadians would be fine with the aem since it never gets above 40 degrees up there... J/K :p i am calling aem today and telling them i want a refund... do you guys think that they will do it???

Well this is interesting. I was all ready to buy AEM next month but now I guess I will have to wait and see what the story is. Maybe I'll have to start considering Injen now.

Chris

yeah i saw your CAI's for sale ... could you do a powder coat that would basically match the Vivid Yellow exactly... i think that would look bad ass...

anyone wanna buy an aem for $100?????

are you sure you aren't overlooking another problem? there are a lot of people out there with short rams and you are the first person I have heard of report a CEI for high IAT...

you stated that your fans USE to turn on at 176 and now don't turn on till 210....certainly you can't believe that your intake is causeing this? I think your car is not running hotter and thus the IAT is higher....but it is more likely a bad TEMP SENSOR for your fans....NOT the intake....find out why your cars COOLANT system is running hot....THAT seems to be your problem...not he intake.

Where can I find the MPH CAI Carbon Fiber intake. I stumbled across a Cabin Fiber part on night bust can't find it now.

Do you have the website or a website"

Also, correct me if I'm wrong. I would think a Carbon Fiber CAI would be better than a normal metal CAI since the Carbon Fiber does not absorb heat from the engine bay like a metal one? Is this true?

Mazdamp,

What kind of problems are you having? I installed a AEM short Ram about 1 week ago. I commuted with the car a few times - a mix of city, and highway traffic - and I have not noticed any overheating issues. Today I commuted with the car, about 20 miles, the temp was near 90 degrees, and I did not notice any overheating symptoms, although I had the a/c on,and it was not exactly over powering, but it seemd to keep the car reasonably cool. (I've only had the car for about 1 month, so I don't know how strong the a/c normally is).

I should note, I was able to commute on the interstate, and there was no rush hour dead stops, I mean I pretty much was able to keep the car moving except for a few stop lights.

The error codes you are seeing, do they display somewhere on the dash? Or are you taking about codes that you pick up on some kind of after-market computer diagnostic?

Well, if you're lucky you'll be able to pick one up off of a member of this board. I don't think MHP sells the Carbon Fiber anymore. The MHP intake is actually aluminum piping wrapped with Carbon Fiber. So it performs the same as the Injen CAI. I just think the MHP looks better and since I fixed the brake reservior rubbing. Good Luck bro

I'm sorry, but what's a CEI (CEL?) ?

Check Engine Light

and yes...he hooked up a "computer" that reads the codes and gets input from the different sensors of the car as its running.

I have drilled the MHP Intake, and I did not see any metal tubing. I believe that it was molded around metal piping, but the intake itself is ture Carbon Fibre.
