Warm up times...

I was wondering, how long do you warm up your car first thing in the morning. I usually let mine idol for about 60 seconds. Some people I know wait like 6 whole minutes.

no need with modern electronic fuel injected vehicles. just go a little easy on the revs until the engine temp gets up.

Ditto...I just hop right in and start driving. I go easy on it until the temperature gauge is in the normal operating range.

same for me too. keep it under 3000 rpm. Warms right up

um...it depends.....if it's not that cold (around 0 C)...maybe warm up about 20 sec....but it's really cold..the max i warm up is 2 to 3 mins....but if warm up to over 5 mins...will it harm the car or what?? i don't mean harm..i mean is not very good to the car??

As explained by my uncle:
You want your car to warm up as quickly as possible, but want to do the least damage. Our cars are pretty smart, they start up at higher rev to warm the car up quickly, but not so high as to do damage before the oil has a chance to circulate. The only real problem is idling in park in an automatic. A manual can sit in neutral all day, and as long as it it properly cooled, it's all good. Automatics should NOT sit idle in park, it's one of the things that puts slow wear on the torque converter and transmission. It doesnt hurt anything right away, but the tranny will last longer if you avoid doing it. It even mentions it in the manual.

what if you leave and automatic idle in neutral? And I just wait about20 seconds to get the oil flowin around. Then just drive normal. By normal I usually shift around 3,500 rpm and skip 2nd and 4th gear on my way up. Does great for the gas milage.
