Want to replace Pro HU with my used aftermarket

I have an old head unit (Sony CDLX 5500 or something like that) that was bought in 2001 for my Corolla 1991! Now that I have a protege ES 2001 I want to reuse this Sony HU but I'm missing some parts like the metal casing that goes around the radio and some clips and screws. The only things left is the HU itself and the plug with the wires coming out of it. My questions are:

1- Is it still possible to hook up this HU on my protege?
2- Is it worth the effort? It's already mine and bought since 2001 and I don't want to spend anything on amps, speakers,etc... I do know it was way better than the cassette player of my corolla, but how about the protege?

I know that I have to pay for the harness and plastic thing below the radio.

Thanks in advance! I know this forum is helpful.

you shoudl be able to get a metal sleeve for a sony from your local audio shop that sells sony. generally there's a fouplefew dozen floating around depending on what kinda packrat the installer is...

Thatsaid, It's questionable wether or not it'll be an actual upgrade, IMHO it's verymuch not worth it, sony hu's have never ever done anythign for me, but I am not you, so it's hard to say. THe factory HU though plain-looking is actually a very nice unit, they were manufactured by either clarion, Pioneer or one other highend company (forget the exacts) and are legitimately nice decks. One of the main reasons ppl replace their deck is MP3 and obviously yours willnothave that.
