VTEC Dave stopped waitin', now which car should he get?

well I'm looking for a manual, hatch or sedan, gas mileage isn't a huge factor i'd be happy with 28+mpg, and long run I'm looking to keep the car until 2014 or so, and buying the si was only bad cuz of wat happened lol......but price wise i'd like 300 to 400 payment

and i'd like 200hp or more and good handling.....i want a car that turns me on becuz I enjoy driving its not a chore to me....

Things happen for a reason. You can't make rash decisions on cars just because you're bored with minor things, or would rather have a different color.

Ultimately, you drive a lot, so you need something with good gas mileage. Don't take it for granted that gas has dropped back down below $1.99 a gallon. You have to be responsible and make smart decisions based on the future. And you should get yourself into a financial situation that you could afford if things got bad.. That's like if I were to go trade my MS3 in for a '09 TBSS (since I loved the power) or a G8 GT (gay..). I'd love an Evo X but I can't nor am I willing to attempt to afford a $30k car right now. Not when I am looking at buying a house for $40k....

Purchasing a $16k Scion XB manual doesn't sound like a bad deal when you'll get the same gas mileage out of a vehicle that will still have similar horsepower (30hp variance, once again it's not like the Civic was "fast") and has an incredible amount of space, practicality and reliability for $16k.

You bought a used performance Civic Si for more, and it's been an utter nightmare.

Time to recoup your losses, try to save a buck. If you were to trade in your busted ass Civic Si for $14k, you would literally use $4k to pay off the difference in negative equity, and have $1500 in the pocket to go towards a nice set of wheels, or just put it in savings.

You have to understand that you will ALWAYS, ALWAYS lose on cars. I've found that out extremely the hard way. Try not to be too high maintenance with your decision and try to put yourself in a more responsible position. Otherwise, just go get a MS3 and call it a day..

Trust me Dave, if gas shoots back up to $4/gal, you won't be singing the same tune.

So, you want:
-manual transmission
-car, hatch or sedan (no coupes?)
-decent gas mileage (20-25 avg)
-payment between $300-400

What other features do you want? Cloth or leather? Good stereo? Sirius/XM? Factory body kit (aero enhancements)? You gotta specify a little more.

Although I don't necessarily agree with getting an xB, I would say to look at a Scion and drive the tC.

Well, think of it like this - you can pay for that out of the box, or you can buy things afterwards to upgrade the suspension. Get something with a solid chassis out of the box, then tailor it how you want if you so desire. You're still gonna be doing a lot of driving to school, so I agree with you wanting something comfortable and fun to drive...that route isn't always the most pleasant.

You really gotta think rationally about this car decision man, don't get stuck in a situation again like you were just in. It was 5 months of you wasting your time and running around for no real reason. If you had a good car you wouldn't have been stuck wondering what the dealer was doing and how they were gonna resolve the situation. That's time you'll never get back, think of it like that.

The xB is such a good steal because the tC is a couple grand more, you get less room, same power, less safety. Part of the reason why we couldn't even consider the tC after driving the xB. We were paying more just cause it was a coupe.

It's just an idea of a car only costing only $16k and getting a TON for your money. There isn't much else out there that will get you more for the money. Heck, for the $1k he'll pocket, he could put that towards a nice set of 17's and use the stock 16" steelies as winter wheels if he really wanted.

But other than that, you're spot on Steve. Great minds think alike.

I saw a lot of nice first gen xB's out in Cali back in 2006, and I didn't really care for them. I don't think Dave would honestly consider one, no matter how good they are. Then again, not my problem either, not yours either. You can't be faulted for making a decent suggestion.

Hey, you still get on AIM from time to time? I just texted ya.

Very true. The 1st gen xB's were FUGLY!

I like this a lot better.

That is pretty nice looking actually. Color even works for that car.

I just have no practical use for me driving a box around.

yea.....im sorry but i couldn't rock that.....2morrow im going to la fontaine and demanding they fix my car since they started this s***, and there is still 400 miles on their warranty lol

You got to be ****** kidding right????(screwy)(screwy) Didn't you just get paid off from victory??? WTF are u thinking Dave???? This s*** is gonna come back and haunt you(cabpatch) Now u are trying to screw everyone else for your mistakes??? Sounds like you are just looking for some free money.....dude that's not right:( You need to accept the fact that u ****** up, and be done with it, you got paid off! remember?????

i got paid off because victory ****** up some paperwork, and i couldn't get them to pay off teh whole car, it was impossible, i talked with a lawyer before i took the deal and it was in my best interest....no matter what i can't get them to eat the neg. equity from my car.

and la fontaine caused all of this bulls hit so yea im gonna go after them. victory only paid me off because they didn't wanna be liable for the implied warranty...

But they were gonna put a used motor in it, instead you took the money, instead of getting it fixed and now want the other dealer to fix it??? That's what isn't right...if you wanted it fixed you shouldn't have taken the money......you should've had them replace the motor with a used one, with a warranty.....(ugh) Now you want to take the money and get the other dealer to fix it...., in other words you're trying to collect twice(bicker) i understand they screwed up but you are trying to get paid twice in essence

they weren't gonna warranty the used motor that was the whole issue....he was gonna drop it in and i was gonna have to sign a release form again..and what if its not the motor? everyone just keeps guessing this and that....like steve said its an electrical component with a mechanical problem.....s*** jeff im still willing to bet like you said the ECU is causing this s*** to happen or a faulty sensor thats why i didnt want to take a chance with another motor

dave should import a from ford of europe the focus st lol 225hp turbo 4 that gets 32mpg.

This is hilarious. Anyone get the new C&D? They did another comparo with the hot hatches. Of course the MS3 won but they included the si, sorry Ray. It didnt take last though. The mitsu was last with the Copper right in front of it, then the si. Out of 7 cars this time. You might be very interested to read what they have to say about all the cars. They shed a lot of insight into that bracket and what each car benefitted and lacked from.

XB? Are you kidding me? My uncle has had 2 of them now, what a horrible looking car no matter how you dress it up. Seriously Mike, your wife is driving a CX7 now. No way she honestly considered that car and ended up with a cx7. Also, the TC isnt bad if I didnt see girls driving them only. I would rock one if the 4.3 wasnt so expensive. They are decent cars that handle well and have some torque. I still think maybe a spec R Sentra or something with some suspension mods, rims, and some motor mods would be a decent reliable transportation that you could pick up for a decent price. I dont agree with Ray either that you wont be able to negotiate trade in, I think dealers are willing to give the farm away if you will buy a car. This honestly isnt a big debate. Dave just needs to pick the 3 cars he wants and see about his trade in and price negotiation... Easy and a one day venture for real. You go out to test drive anything on Tuesday at 4 you will only have 2 hours. You need to go out on a Monday or Thursday.
