I'm thinking of deleting my vtcs on my manifold and just seen there are 2 witch one have people removed. Both? Or just a certain 1

Just the VTCS is the one to remove,... the VICS kicks in at about 4,700 RPM and provides more power up to red-line.

The VTCS is only for cold starts and only operates for a couple of minutes. If you live in a cold climate and you remove the VTCS. your car may run like crap until it's warmed up but only on really cold days.

I forget,... I'll check and update,...

So it looks like the one you want to remove is the one connected to the upper actuator.

This is the VTCS and those are the little screws that love to get ingested into the engine.

Thanks buddy .... have u ever heard of zip tieing them open? I just ask that because I had a probe gt and a lot of people tied open the vris open

Wow,... just read that thread,... not so much about VTCS,... more about people having 30 seconds to search.

Oh well, I don't mind,... I like to see how fast I can search, copy, paste to ms paint, upload to photobucket, copy to thread then post it.

That was 37 minutes,... I've gotta work on my speed.

No I haven't heard of that,... I don't think it makes sense. If the system is there, you might as well use it. The only real problem with them is the clattering. Removal prevents the screws from getting sucked in and creates better air flow.

There was a recall for late model 02's and most 03's because the guys at the factory decided to not use lock-tite on the screws for that run. You can phone a Mazda dealer with your VIN and they can look your car up to see if it was done.
Mine is an 02 so they used the lock-tite. (why they would stop using it mid run is beyond me,... it cost them a lot of money, including many engine replacements)

OK... ya I didn't know that the hole removal thing was because of the screw problem I just though it was for better air flow...but I guess its a little bit of both

I noticed your mod list and I haven't done any mods. My car is completly stock. I am only interested in mods that help my economy or increase my creature comfort. I've done the "power windows always on", the "headlights off with ignition", the "AC off in defrost mode", the "flickering AC light fix" and cut the hole in my cowling under the hood mods but that's about it other than general maintenance and issues specific to our cars to try to prevent them from happening to me.

I thought I would give you a list of things that I've researched and done to my car in the preventative maintenance category. Some of them a big reads but that's because they are big problems with our cars.
