Vopour Lock Fix

Hey I'm jus wondering what happens in vopour lock? Cause my friend had a pod filter in his Integra and went through a puddle, the lights in his car instantly lit up and when he pull over the car wouldn't start.

When that happens is there anyway to fix it? Currently his car is in a garage, because NRMA pulled out his spark plugs and started his car when there was this loud banging noise. Apparently his crank shaft is bent.

Anyway, anyone who can shed some light on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

oh, where did the pod filter sit?
one of our dear friends sp20 died that way. he had an K&N typhoon
drove thru puddle, vapoured locked and car was pronounced dead.
had to get paid out thru insurance!

yeah poor old karlo.

there is a way to get around it if you're quick - an old jet ski trick.

take the spark plugs out and spray heaps of wd-40 stuff down there. crank over the engine. spray more, crank. spray more, crank. spray more, crank more...you get the idea. usually you go through a bottle of wd40 and drain the battery.

then put everything back together and try and start it up. fingers crossed you had saved it in time. usually the electrics are first to go (esp with our cars - the MAF)

and that banging noise - no good. car dead. more than likely a rod rather than the crank

crikey i thought the chances of getting hydrolocked from a CAI were quite small? how big and deep was this puddle that he drove through? i'm considering taking my CAI out now, with all this rain that were getting in sydney now. theres heaps of roads near my place where storm water drains get blocked and huge puddles of water form on the side of the road during big downpours.

yeah you could remove it...

but then agani i've had mine for 3 years and never had a problem. you just need to be ultra careful when it's wet - keep your eye wide open!

or don't slow down for puddles??

thats what would cause the water to well up and into the intake

That is the crank I reckon. Sounds like it's bent bad. Did the car used to struggle to rev out? If so then it is likely that it's f@$#ed. Also if that's the case, the block won't be too healthy, will be really badly worn. The only way to tell is to strip the motor down and check it out. You'll see where it's wearing then if it is.

I dont understand why people try and ford rivers with their cars.
once you vapor lock your engine its ******, if it stops running after driving through a puddle/small pond just pull out your gun and shoot it

The puddle was apparently ankle high. He went over it at 70km/h and the car just died!!

Twilightprotege and sabrelli DO you know what happened to karlo's sp 20 was it black by any chance ?
I am currently looking @ buying one @ the moment and a similar thing happened to it and it has ha d the engine replaced buy the previous owner do you think this is the one and would their be any problems with it?

Also its an 03 model and doesnt have like a digital climate control its just got like semi analog climate control is this normal?

karlos was black, v. shiny too and none of them have digital climate control dude....

has white rims, i can't remember all of it too well.... he sold the car, well the insurance company wrote it off actually...

then again, your looking at an 03 model car... with a replaced engine? something says steer clear of that one!!!

kar10w's was a 03 Black Sp20 , 18" White Rims, Whiteline springs (these should be blue or silver in color) , and Hi-Tech full exhaust.

Check the rear guards as he had them rolled to accomdate the 19's
There should be a paint chip/scratch which is noticable on top of one of the guards.

Climate control is not digital. its just the knob thingies.

How much is this guy asking?

Id rather not say how much im paying for it until i have it if thats alright but its a very good price and that definatly sounds like th car it has white 18s with lowered suspension and a nice looking exaust very well made one anyway.

personally i wouldnt worry about if the engine has been swapped - you're getting a newer engine! the only thing i would worry about is if it's not karlo's and it was flood damaged and that's the reason why they changed the engine

Ive talked to karlo this morning and this was his car im waiting until till tommorrow when the rta opens up so i can find out if the engine number has been changed from the orginal if it has ill buy it. But if it hasnt ill be staying away from it and ill keep on looking.
